I believe it's called a reference sheet. That's a traditional artwork (ink + pencil)! A cartoon character which is easy to animate. Not an animal, this is important.The character doesn't belong to any universe, he doesn't even have a normal name. "Ranger" is his actor pseudonym.
But Ranger has a horrible fate - he is gonna be animated by me ))
