Description Just a quickie stamp .

Point value is a rounded up approximation.

Try to keep that in mind when trying to commission someone for next to no points <3

(note : no I do not take point commissions )

point values vary depending on what you're calculating. They're worth less to change back to USD than to buy and the more you spend at once on buying them the more you get so that effects their worth as well

Yes, so many people don't realize that! I do accept point commissions but I do it for the exact same price as normal commissions. I just use this: [link]

Ikr? hell, charging 100-200 points is "a lot" to some people, but turn that into cash... I know an artist who charges 10-15$ got commissions, but only 70 points for similar pictures, and it's like, dazzit? really? your art is worth so much more.

Totally agree with this!!!! Saw someone somewhere who commented on how someone was charging too many points and I just had to roll my eyes and say 'REALLY?!?!? They're working for something less than a sweatshop wage!' I hate it when people try to rip off artists. Bleh.

Yes!
Artists deserve more respect and shouldn't be unfairly paid. ;uuu;
We need to eat too, haha!

haha yes eating is good x__x and I definitely know what its like to go without food. Many people dont realize that a life without art and design would be extremely bland. All the labels you see, all of the displays in stores, your clothing. Almost everything in the long run had an artist or designers hands in it somewhere. We deserve equal pay to other jobs like washing dishes etc. I'm a huge advocate for this

Agreed. Art is everywhere but artists are always undervalued, especially by people who .. aren't artists themselves LOL. Visuals are super super important.
*uu*
I'm an advocate for this too.

Great stamp. It is saddening when I see people doing things like "full picture with background and detail" for 5 points. Especially since they don't realize how much such low prices affect those taking cash commissions.

Honestly? It's give and take.

I saw an AMAZING artist giving very cheap commissions considering his talent, and I bought one and told him I thought he undercharged himself way too much. He replied that he knows, but he does it to get his business of commissioning off the ground.

Lessons being:
1) There are commissioners like me who will always offer to pay more out of courtesy when they see they really ARE being selling themselves short and-
2) If you have a lower price, you usually get booked on commissions within a matter of hours I've found. If you charge a reasonable price, you might be waiting months to actually get work.
Meanwhile, the person selling under is developing their skill through their work, and are getting acknowledgement in the community.

Pros and cons to everything my dear.

That may be true for it's rates within the DA community but in a wider scope of the artist community the prices most artists make. I do understand starting cheap to begin a reliable community but my point was more of how commissions in DA has suffered in comparison to other artist communities (such as FA where the average is around 3x the commission rate). I won't even begin trying to compare to professional artists because we do need a community for people to start their career and a professional rate can easily be between $50-$100 per hour (and there are a couple artists I know who charge that rate and spend 50 hours on a piece. Again there is a BIG difference in quality compared to even the best here on DA). Even scanning in freelancer communities I have seen it average around $50-$150 for even intermediate level artists whereas here in DA I have only found one to successfully receive a commission for over $50. For here I see most great (but not godly level) and popular artists hang around the $20 when they are needing a steady stream of commissions while the more intermediate levels are around the $10-$15 bracket. For the ones I've seen that are good and selling for 10 points or less for a full picture (which is equivalent to roughly $0.08), it is a point of too cheap that it does make me wonder if they are aware of exactly how cheap they are selling their work for (especially when that is just barely over 1% of working 1 hour at minimum wage and I'm sure that a commission they are being serious about and trying to earn business with is taking at least 10 minutes for even a quick, serious quality picture). There is also the problem of these low prices, as mentioned before, causing other artists to lower down to an already low level to remain "competitive" and acquire commissions. I do agree that keeping one's low for competitive and community development but I feel this low rate here in DA is a point low enough that I feel bad for the artists acquiring commissions here and competing for the low prices.

It's called "what the market will bear." Different environments have different scales. You see that in any market. For example, here in Chicago, go to a Target store and buy a gallon of milk. In a lower-income area you'll pay $2, in a higher-end area you'll pay $4. Many different factors play into it, but the bottom line is that people in the lower area won't pay more, but in the higher-end they will. Economics.

I work with a lot of commission artists and they all varying in their pricing, and it's not often based on skill. It's preference. Some ask for less, but they make up in volume. Others charge a fair rate, but they have less-consistent business. It's up to the individual to decide what is best for them.

I've had people think my costs were expensive, but my cheapest commission is 400 /$5. That is really cheap. I give them the option to either pay via PayPal or by points, so it's easier. They think of accumulating points for free or via donations, etc and not from buying them. Then, I'll see people who have a commission for a sketch or artwork or journal where they charge only 50 Which may be one reason people over value them. I can understand doing things for cheap to be nice and for fun only, but I prefer to be paid for my work. And in all honesty, the amount of work I put into my projects is worth waaaaay more than I charge.

I agree about people working for too little. On the flip side I think some artist charge low points as a way of filtering. One gal I know wants to get practice. If she offered free requests, she would be flooded. But by offering low point commissions, she still gets work, but it's more manageable. The money is kinda irrelevant to her, more like gravy. However, if she came right out and said that, she would be barraged with people begging for free commissions because it's not fair to them.

I almost always overpay for cheap point commissions, because I feel a fare wage is important. But some artists do know the value and they choose to work low for personal reasons.

Yup, I have met many who say so. I ask them if they know the point value (because I didn't before starting commissions and saw many different prices people offer, so looked into before starting my own). Just to be sure that they know what they are offering. Most have said they just want to be nice and have points for fun, not profit ;D Only a few have ever said they didn't know the value and had to redo their prices.

400 points for $5.10 CDN (im canadian and only see CDN prices). 510 / 400 is 1.275 cents. I calculated out the most expensive cost. Not the cheapest.

Wonderful stamp. lovely idea to make one like this.
It's true one point is cheap.
Indeed, people shouldn't ask for commissions for next to no points.
It's nice when an artists offer it her/himself. then it's okay. but when you ask someone yourself. It at least should something be around the actual price of the time what's worked on it, colour pencil used etc in it.
A valuable price should be offered to the artist at all times.

That's at least my personal opinion.
