back to designing some of the griffins! this one is scarlet be thy coat, a bearded vulture / african lion hybrid.

i've really been waiting to design a griffin that's part bearded vulture. his name also makes sense when you consider that bearded vultures dye their feathers with red soil - i remember sharing this fact with a family friend once, who asked "are you sure it's not with blood?". to be honest, that wouldn't make much sense when you think of it; blood is sticky, and it tends to turn brown/black when it dries. also, it wouldn't really be very smart for an animal in the wild to smell like blood...

despite what you'd probably expect from a vulture-lion griffin, scarlet is actually one of the friendliest of the griffins - his personality is more like a large dog than anything. doesn't necessarily mean he's completely harmless, though.

he's probably one of my favorite griffins so far, as you can imagine. i had fun designing him
