Despite the challenges he faced, Ethan excelled at the Circle, quickly rising through the ranks. But as he grew older, he began to question the strictures of the Circle. He yearned for a life of adventure, one where he could truly make a difference in the world.
As tensions between mages and templars increased, Ethan found himself caught in the middle. He watched as the libertarian fraternity of enchanters attempted to pull away from the Chantry, and he saw the destruction of the Circle of Starkhaven, causing many of its mages to flee to the Free Marches.
But Ethan was determined to make a difference. And so, when he received the invitation to attend the Conclave at the Temple of Sacred Ashes, he knew that this was his chance. He hoped to bring an end to the conflict between the Circles of Magi and the Templar Order, and he was determined to do whatever it took to make that happen.

When he emerged from the rubble, he was a changed man, with a strange mark on his left hand and a new purpose in life.
