Description

Ficus' idea of 'helping' was...different...to everyone else's. Simply being present seemed to be enough effort in his mind. Just look at him - he could light up a room, make everyone happy by just sitting in the corner and letting everyone else do the hard graft. If morale was getting a bit low, he could pull out the big guns - his (mis)adventures with Luther, which were always hilarious; or retelling the best bits from his best parties. Both crowd-pleasers.

The *reality* was a bit different. Whatever task Ficus was assigned to usually meant other curios would work harder to pick up his slack. There had been various observations and complaints of his behaviour but there wasn't much that could be done - there wasn't anything to threaten or punish him with! And thankfully, even with his lacklustre performance, nothing had gone wrong, no one had been hurt, and Mino Ami as a whole was still being productive. Don't say it too loud around him but Ficus really didn't make much of a difference whether he took part or not. But he was a terrible influence on others and generally managed to get himself into all sorts of mischief, so he needed to be kept busy and out of the way...somehow...

A couple of curios responsible for the task schedule had a long hard think about Ficus. He was obsessed with himself and wanted everyone to know about it. He could probably talk for days and was a natural charmer and silvertongue...right, radio duty it was! Of course they weren't stupid - radio communications were very very important and the current technology allowed for their makeshift station to cover pretty much all of Mino Ami and some of the surrounding countryside. They weren't about to let Ficus run riot with important stuff. There were a couple of radio frequencies that weren't being used, so Ficus could just go nuts talking into the aether, whether anybody tuned in or not. He could be made to *feel* important and entertaining, whilst actually not affecting anyone. PERFECT.

After a lengthy lesson about using the equipment, Ficus could be left to debut his radio career. It was made very clear that the kit was basic and also had to be shared - if there were emergencies or urgent messages, someone would have to temporarily kick him off the air. Ficus was perfectly fine with all of that. These were desperate times after all. But when he was on air, anyone could tune into him via short-range radios, including the ones found in people's homes or out in the farmers fields.Just imagine, he could bring absolute JOY to so many sad and scared curios. I'm giving myself the warm and fuzzies.

As he familiarised himself with all of the buttons and various bits and bobs, the two undyre that had thought of this idea had a few moments to reflect. In a way, it was kind of nice to see Ficus genuinely interested in this task, which meant he might take it seriously and leave everyone else alone. But he'd be on the airwaves, everyday, probably all day...was this going to be a disaster...?
