Now that I established where the lower jaw is I have started to round off the part of my ring that will be the skull with a large rotary bit. This particular ring is not going to be a realistic looking skull but in order for it to register as what it is supposed to be it still needs an identifiable foundation. If you take a close look at my Victory ring [link] you can see that there is no part of this skull that is anatomically correct. The only reason that it registers as a human skull is that all of the different elements like the jaw , eyes and nose have a foundation based in reality. Once I have a form that has the basic lines in tact I can embellish then pretty far without the piece becoming unrecognizable.
