Description
I've gone in with a small knife blade and carved some detail into the handle of the dagger. I also started to carve in a tiny skull on the end of the handle. The tool I am using is a regular #11 Exacto knife blade that has been cut down and soldered into the end of a piece of brass tubing. If you look as the wing on the right you can see that I have softened up the sharp edges of the feathers, since the heart which is the focus of the piece has an organic feel to it i don't want to have the feathers overshadow it by being too bold. Keep in mind that this is going to be cast in silver , antiqued and polished. Any texture or small recesses are going to end up being black and the high points will be polished to a shiny silver. The heart with all of it's texture will be darker in appearance so I want the wings to be simple and kind of clean looking to contrast the heart but not to the point where they take the spotlight.Related content

Love your work. Do you ever carve animals in wax?
I am looking for more artists for making rings, pendants ect.
Great work very detailed.
It will look great in sterling.

I did jewelry for a single semester in college, and thought I'd never want to try again.
But looking at your process here, I made things much more difficult than they really needed to be, mostly because I totally used the wrong tools. Looking at your metalwork is already inspiring, but this series in particular makes me want to give it another try, haha.
Thank you for sharing your process with us. It's a gorgeous piece - amazing detail! Looking forward to the final piece.
