PREPARE FOR STUPID PSYCHOLOGY(kinda) BULL
Well, for the majority of the game you only know Flowey/Asriel as that stupid backstabbing homicidal flower with teeth, and when you do learn about who he really is in the true pasifist ending, it's said that he was in a body that lacked the ability to love. (And dear old Voldy has taught us what THAT does to your mental state.) The result is that the player assosiates Flowey with or and Asriel with the cute goat kid who just needed a hug.
