Description
TLG is known for throwing a monkey wrench in canon, whether it'd be characters, character settings, settings in general, continuity and story elements, and character designs. However this was something that a few people had noticed: The paintings.I'll admit, compared to the ACTUAL characters designs in the series, these paintings are ok, but some of them confuse me, which brings us here to this promotional painting, which I think, completely re-designed Scar as a whole. His fur was more brown, his eyes and nuzzle were white, his mane was brown, his claws were non-existent and worst of all, his scar was BLACK. Jet. Fucking. Black.
Imagine if they had actually used this 'painting design' for Scar in the flashback sequence in Season 3. That might've pissed people off even more than the snake-bite theory.
The newer paintings of Scar had proven to be better, but some had still screwed up some parts about Scar, the worst of it giving him RED EYES. Did Rafiki paint this shit sleep deprived?
So pretty much, I edited the painting of Scar to make it resemble the movies more. I used his stampede colors from the first movie (the scene where he leaves Simba at the rock) since it's clear as day in that scene and there's not much to reflect or dim the shading on that confuses the color. I also added his claws (to fit with the tradition that he never retracts them), shaded his eyes green, and corrected the colors on his mane and his scar. I notice that Scar looked a lot like Kovu in the original depiction, so I'm wondering if that was intentional to show that Scar had "a lightness" in him that he quickly escaped, but that same lightness Kovu couldn't escape?
Actually.. now that I think about it, Scar's mane in this painting resembles Surak.... as in, it looks exactly like Surak's mane. I guess we know where the inspiration for that shit came from lmfao.
With Mufasa, his painting depiction was far better. Apart from the eyes, the nuzzle, and underbelly, I couldn't find much to change.
That dumbass circle was a last min. decision, and I inspired it off of a concept in a deleted scene from TLK 2 where Rafiki draws a circle around the paintings to signify the Circle's 'completion.' I guess in a literary sense, this was painted after Scar got his scar, but before he had killed his Lion Guard.
I don't own The Lion Guard. It's copyrighted by Disney, and in a sense, this painting was copyrighted by Rafiki, but what's he gonna do? Whack me with his stick?
