The book and the movie are very different but they are great

they are almost nothing alike. And I think the movie might have benefited from the lack of the religious/social background, 'cause it would probably make it much longer, but then again, if it was done good ... we'll never know though

No, but this can be interpreted like this, in the book blade runner, the animals are in the way of total extinction, so people are buying electric pets, because of the high price of true animals. (sorry for my bad english) [link]
