So last night we went to our local park to watch the fireworks. My boyfriend and I decided to watch from the Marina, we hadn't been there in two years and found this beautiful memorial for September 11th which had been built last year. My township lost 28 people that day, I lost two neighbors who were near and dear to us. It was one of those moments that I wish I had my SLR with me, but I hadn't been expecting to take pictures that night. My iPhone doesn't have great quality, but I used it anyway. Yes that is an actual beam from the building, and the cables holding it up are from the elevators. There was something about that moment that needed to be captured that night, the beauty and haunting reality of the monument hit us both hard.

My boyfriend is in the Army National Guard, and has been to Iraq once, I hope everyone still remembers why we are still in a war.

Remember the people who we lost that day, the ones who make sacrifices for us still.
