TIL there was actually a private property sign along this train track, I learned this after walking for 10 solid Km before I saw one Canadian Railway Private Property sign... Luckily the employees were really nice and said it was no big deal, they agreed there was a lack of signs.Related content

A pair of essential railroad right of way mainenance machines. The far one is a tamper. It grabs a crosstie and attempts to lift it while vibrating it to death. This causes the individual stones in the ballast to settle around and even beneath the ties, preventing them from sinking when the rails are trodden on by heavy trains. The near machine is a ballast regulator. Basically a specialized rock grader/spreader/sweeper. Here is a youtube video of track that needs the services of a tamper.
