Yay for making an actual ref! I cleaned up a few of the original sketches and a traditional one from earlier this week. It's kind of text-heavy but there's a lot of info that's kind of necessary for drawing him. I also forgot to put that he can't breathe air or stay out of the water for longer then a few minutes without it being dangerous.

He somehow manages to be a massive pain and really fun to draw all at the same time.

The fins are at 40% opacity and the finger web is at 60%. Ears are 100%.

He also has human intelligence and does speak one human language, although I haven't decided where he lives yet so I'm not sure what language I want it to be. He probably knows words in a whole bunch of languages (although he can't read) because he's really curious an probably eavesdrops a lot.
