Description
Futuristic Environments are probably my favourite theme. For this one I recycled some elements of my older works in order to add detail.Related content

The Emerald City - 3030!
That's really cool, though I quite badly wanted it to be a future dorothy reference.
Just me?

This picture is awesome for some solid reasons. It's very detailed, has a truck-load of creativity poured into it, is based off of a cool color, and it depicts a futuristic theme. In general, it's pretty awesome!

The subtle blues and aquas really make the green come alive! Well done. I just wish I could see down the hole that the machine in the middle is centered over.

WHOA.
Amazing <3
I love the colours and all the detail.
Very technological.
The hidden moon behind all the pollution and clouds is a great touch.

I have a question that I don't want you to take the wrong way. I'm not at all accusing you of unoriginality when I ask this, but it formed in my mind the instant I saw the picture. Were you inspired at all by the artwork in Midgar in Final Fantasy 7? I ask not because it bears a strict resemblance to it, because it doesn't, but because it shares some general thematic similarities. Like the color green, suspended architecture, and the absence of any natural elements.
If you were inspired by it, that's cool, and I approve of the picture not as a derivative but as a thematic tribute. If, on the other hand, you weren't, that's even more interesting. I wonder what it might be about futuristic reactors that would lead you to choose those thematic elements for this picture?
Then again, if you had some completely different inspirational source, or if you and the artists of FF7 share a common one, I'd be interested in that, too.
Sorry for the long question, but this picture piqued my curiosity.

Thanks for the comment. Another viewer mentioned FF7, too. In fact I just saw some character promo artwork of the series, i donΒ΄t know which volume. I am not big gamer myself...And I started to watch the FF-Movie once. It looked cool, but the plot bored me so I didnΒ΄t finished it. I had no special source of inspiration, the reactor was the head/helmet of a cybercop in one of my older paintings!

Do you mean Spirits Within, or Advent Children? The former had no relation to any game, and everyone I know who saw it said it was no good. Advent Children is a sequel to FF7, and while it's a good action sequence, it isn't much else. In either case, I wasn't thinking of the movies, but the game.
Since you weren't inspired by the game, I am now officially curious about those thematic similarities I mentioned. Such things frequently point to something of philosophical significance. I may or may not think of it, but if I do, I'll let you know.
I will say this much. As far as I know, reactors, and indeed power plants of any sort, tend to be if anything especially grounded, for reasons of safety and practicality. I think it is interesting that not only you, but many other sci-fi concept artists, conceive of super-tech reactors as being suspended in some sort of way. I wonder if it has something to do with some not-quite-conscious decision to imply some sort of static field that would dissipate upon contact with the ground?
