Description
It’s the boys first time out, woo! Got high hopes for this Aralkum, if it wasn’t hindered by my own laziness to keep up with drawing the trainings and finding shows to go in. Anyways, enough on rambling, there’s a show entry i’ve got to draw! (and maybe a few more)
Artists’ Reflection:
The sketch has changed tremendously from start to finish, mainly as the dimensions and size did not match and looked a little wonky with the map reference provided. Kokaral was drawn, and left to his own devices while I tried desperately to make the background look anything other than messy and rough (I think I accomplished that!). One technique I used for ‘soft blurring’ the fairgrounds was to duplicate the basefill of it twice, turn one bright red and other dark blue, lower those opacities then move one to the left and one to the right to give a semi-burred look which is actually featured quite a lot in Into The Spiderverse. Adding onto that the sharpness was brought down using adobe lightroom and some colours changed to really make it stand out.
The foreground wasn’t really anything big, flat colour the subjects then add a clipping layer for shading, and one for highlighting. Though I did manage to find a more rough paint brush in my folder from the depths of hell to try to get a better texture of sand.
Overall, I'm quite happy with the layout and surprised myself by enjoying the very different colour and lighting scheme then what you’d normally see in other shows. :]

Story:
Colour, noise, lights. A whole lot different from the country life Gabby was so attuned to, hues of blues and light purple danced around in a gentle breeze which moved the palm leaves where some of the lights were placed. OwC Kokaral thought of this as a different place too, as his head was higher than a giraffe and staring at the amusement park which overlooked all of the arenas at the show.
“No not there, though I can make you meet the horses on the merry-go-round if you wish.” she giggled to herself, and gave the stallion a hard pat on the neck. No dust came off his shiny coat, not even a speck as the night before she and Chris had furiously been washing the ever loving hell out of Cola (OwC Kokaral’s new nickname), to his very much, totally delighted gratefulness. So she kept walking him down the sandy path toward the arena to the halter classes.
It’d be his first debut out, and a big one at that with travelling across the world to prove that the champagne stallion with elegant hooded eyes was fit to the standard of being a pure-bred Aralkum, even if he didn’t have the horns poking out of his head or that he didn’t follow the standard route that the breed took. See Cola was a strong horse, hardy and smart to withstand the Australian summer heat and move cows where they needed to go seamlessly without any hassle (for the most part). Though he never dared to really push his handlers like a dog enthusiastic to go for a walk, rather just enough so that the lead-rope didn’t go slack, and with his curiosity to this environment, that lead was far from going slack any time soon. Gabby looked around at the other competitors outside the ring waiting to enter into the breed class, many of whom she’d never seen before, but wanted to at least do the friendly thing and wish her competitors luck.
A sooty chocolate palomino took her view, then the shirtless man who held the horse did too, and she gave him a small wave and a smile, the late teenager not being afraid to say her hellos to all, everyone were mates after all. Then she eyed a dazzling sabino Aralkum soon followed by Gabby spotting a little more boring coloured black sabino. She soon then approached the lot by the entrance, however a little further out on the sand in a conscious effort to not block anyone's way. Damn I should have brought tall boots, Gabby thought to herself with a slight frown with her brown eye brows, and could just feel the fine-rough substance underneath the socks of her shoes.
