Description
Cosmo Seedrian, daughter of Lucas and Earthia Seedrian, is the heiress to the gargantuan off-world terraforming mega-corporation 'Interstellar Biotechnics.' Though raised in the lavish atriums of the Family's primary Mobian residence, Cosmo grew disillusioned with her family's company and its methods, and the concerning ramifications that having a solar system's worth of wealth and power entailed. Her mother and father became champions of the Secure Your Soul life-extending program, enabling those with the means to become, in essence, immortal. Cosmo, having an innate sense of the value of life, and an intensely individual spirit, rejected such programs, insisting that if one must set a price on their own life in a vain attempt to find real worth in a mortal eternity, then such individuals do not know how to truly live. Her ideals clashed with her parent's desires for her future, and so she ran away into Retro Night Zone, seeking to escape the corporate lifestyle, forfeiting her birthright to own several of the inhabited worlds, and choosing instead to walk the rebel path.

Blaze the cat used to be a Netrunner, making her living by stealing, erasing, or spreading sensitive information from the net, reaching an unparalleled success rate and garnering a venerable reputation, but also a high price on her head. Realizing the unsustainability of such a profession, Blaze changed her course and became a bodyguard for the superwealthy, acquiring in the process her pyrotechnic cyberware. Using her new 'chrome,' Blaze could achieve incredible maneuverability and quickly arose to legendary status for her lethality. However, one assignment gone south dashed away any further opportunities to increase her status, and left Blaze alone with a very angry, and very powerful enemy.

The two outcasts met each other when Blaze stumbled upon Cosmo attempting to defend herself against some neighborhood ruffians who were trying to steal her pack. With ease, Blaze intimidated the thugs away, and offered to walk Cosmo to her home. When Cosmo told her that she had just run away from her home, the cat knew in that moment that she would have to be the one to take her in. Over the next few months, Blaze taught Cosmo how to develop her survivor's instinct, as well as the necessary skills to defend herself. Before long, Cosmo had made enough Eddies to purchase her cyberware of choice, the Mantis Blades. Now the real work could begin.

In the present day, Blaze's past caught up with her. While driving in her brand new Alvarado, Blaze and Cosmo were intercepted by an Arasaka hit squad. After taking heavy fire, Blaze ducked the car into an alley and bailed out of the vehicle, with Cosmo following closely. They took their stand and waited for their enemies to round the corner, ready to dispatch whoever dared to approach.

I hope you enjoyed this little backstory to this piece. Thought I might inject a bit of lore into it just to add a bit of interest! So, I tried a different style here, typically I find the standard cartoony 'Sonic' proportions to be more appealing, but I wanted to shake it up a bit. I wanted to keep it cartoony, but integrate it a bit more with the Cyberpunk theme. I had fun with it, and I think it turned out pretty badass. Cosmo's pose here is the highlight, for me.

It's mostly (and by mostly, I mean almost entirely) hand drawn, I used reference images for the Alvarado's wheels and modified them quite a bit, as well as a reference for the chain-link fence, using the transform tools to align it with my perspective. The final composite that adds the lens distortion and hashed filter was done in Blender, and yes, before you ask, it is intended to be this exaggerated. I'll include a link so you can see the picture without all the filters, although this version has the intended aesthetic.

This project started shortly after my first viewing of the Edgerunners anime on Netflix, which shows how long this project has been cooking. It's gone through variation after variation but finally I found a layout I could settle on. This has easily been my most ambitious hand-made project, on top of trying out a new style of shading that integrates the subjects much more seamlessly than any of my prior work. Needless to say, I'm very happy with it, despite me still seeing issues I'd like to fix, I've decided I'd better post this now before it becomes an endless motivation pit.

I hope you enjoyed this one! I laughed, I cried, I questioned my existence, and experienced every other state of being while making this one. Just gotta say it again, I'm just thrilled to finally be done with it.
