Every traveler has a home of his own, and he learns to appreciate it the more from his wandering.
- Charles Dickens

-----------------

This picture is of our very own bookcase here at home, with little momentos collected from all around.... and tiny spaces waiting for those things not yet plucked from distant lands.

For me, that quote by Dickens is so true. I absolutely thirst to travel and explore... and yet it makes me cherish that quiet place we've carved out for ourselves here at home.

Sometimes the best pleasure is curling up in a chair with a cup of coffee, glancing over at the bookcase where these eclectic treasures are kept, and savoring the memories attached to each one with great leisure.

---------------------------------
Photograph and texture are my own.

p.s. A journal feature goes to the person who recognizes what castle that is, or what the picture is specifically of in the background! Extra cookies if you know who photographed it.

Lovely. The kind of shelf I hope to have one day.
I love the glaze over the piece as well to show how it's a representation of memories and how, though we hold onto them as much as possible, they still fade with time.

There's a distinctly nostalgic feel to this, for all the exoticism of it; I think it's due to the texture and warmth of the color. Lovely work-- I hope to have a bookcase like this one day.

Okay. Proving that I have way too much time on my hands, I'll try to guess the castle and harbor, lol, evidenced by the fact that I'm typing this at 3:30am.

The Castle is: Castle Coch, near Cardiff, south Wales, built in the 1870's.

The harbor is a little tougher. Definately Cornwall. At first I thought either Plymouth or Mevagissey, but I think in the end I'll go with Penzance Harbour...

Yes?

Beautiful texture, btw...

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guessed the castle correctly!!

It is indeed Castle Coch! Which I was able to wander through in 2000. So magical! I haven't posted any pictures of it because I was using my 'film' camera, NikonFM10 back then, and haven't scanned any of the pictures yet. lol

Alas, the harbor is not correct....but it will probably be next to impossible to guess unless one was veeery familiar with the photographs of the man who took it. Hmm...perhaps a hint? *ponder* One would not wander this habor at night, without keeping a scarf wrapped tightly around their throat...... heheh.

This is what I love about your art. You're always doing something different.

I've always wanted to travel and see the world, but have never been given that opportunity. I love listening to stories from those who've been where I want to go.

I like the painted feel of the texture, but I would suggest toning it down just a bit. I think it's hard to see what's on the shelf through the texture.

I love how unique all these pieces are. They're not stocks you could easily find.

I like this picture very much!

I'm not sure how the castle is called...but its a france one, right?
Maybe on the Chateau de Val on the river Dordogne-Bort les orgues?

Hmmm, about the picture...this are fisherboats...it reminds me on netherland pictures...a little bit about venedig...is it from Hans Johann Wagner?

Well, i like this picture. Its full of details and i can smell the parfum of the other lands, India, Greek?...I'm not really sure about teh other things...

Thank you!!

Alas, the Castle is not in France. Both the Castle and the picture are somewhere in the UK. But excellent guesses!! As for India, Greece, yes - you spotted those details in there for sure!

The monkey was a present that I bought in Cannon Beach, Oregon - which is on the west coast of the USA - and the camel was just a little something I found in a thrift store.

That looks like my bookcase! I love collecting little knick-knacks from everywhere I've gone in the world. Although that would require a much larger bookcase I'm sure...

Well done as always!

Thank you!! Heheh - bookcases like this are such a treat to see. I love peeking into them when I'm at someone's house and realize they have one too, chock full of knick knacks and momentos. You should post a picture of yours sometime!
