the ones i used were from aaaaaaages ago, and more attuned toward an anime/manga style.
MLP-FIM group has lots of good ones for ponies.
what kinda style were you going for? cartoon? realistic? mange/anime?
I could dig up some worth half a muffin if knew what you were aiming for and post them for ya.

Mainly a similar styling to the show until I develop my own one.

These are actually helping me IMMENSELY, (Does DA have italics, I hate using caps.)
My proportions were all screwed and horrible, but now they're alot better. My next problem is getting the manes, tails and snouts just right. My snouts keep looking like either beaks or camels.

da does not have italics for comments. maybe for journals and the like, but not comments.
and pony muzzles are probably the hardest part of ponies x.x

It's a fun juggling act, I'm focusing solely on faces since I got the body proportions more-or-less okay. Whenever I draw a good muzzle, I mess up the eyes, or the mane looks weird.
I'm just enjoying the creativity. I made a fairly good one of Zecora that's got okay proportions, but her face has so much detail in comparison to other ponies. :S

Yeh, I've managed to make a montage spanning four sides of A4 of random crap. The cool thing is I can actually see the improvement over time. I made my favourite one just now, but the rear legs are too short. So my OC pony will be called "Stumpy."

Might need to get a sharpener and a rubber soon, especially the sharpener. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who had issues with drawing them, thank god they kept the look simple on them.

well, the looks are simple less from a drawing standpoint and more from an animators standpoint.
the framerate on MLP is rather high for a television show.
imagine drawing 100,000+ images of the Mane Cast plus backgrounds and walk-on characters, each slightly
different than the last XD Of course, this isn't as bad with MLP as its flash driven, but that means
simpler shapes anyway, because too many details complicate the betweening method in flash.

Do you know if they use shape or motion tweening by the way? Because motion tweening would probably need a tonne of layers for the walk cycle alone.

Same, but high school was only a couple of years ago for me. I was th only person to do the animated graphics section in Flash in my IT class, the rest made GIFs in Fireworks.

regular tablets have a bit of a learning curve, since they don't have screens.
cintiqs do, but are very expensive by comparison.

...I'll stick to HB pencil and paper for now then. Started on doing drawings from the front. I like the increased room for facial work, but getting the proportions right is even more of a bugger.
Still, I'll just fill up my paper with failures until I draw a good one.
