When Sonic Team said they were rebuilding Sonic from the ground up, how could we have known they had THIS in mind?Thank God they didn't say they were going to start from "Scratch." *rimshot*

You know, the funny thing is that I wasn't inspired by that SpongeBob episode when I drew this. But I sure thought a lot about it about the time I reached the coloring process.

I really hope they don't get rid of the cast the games built up over the years. I've heard many people, some of whom I actually hold deep respect for, have said that one of the main problems with the recent games was the addition of more characters over the years (like Dirk (y'know, Themrock), sadly enough). Personally, I think that's a big crock, and I've grown to love the cast; even the ever-hated Silver (just because his introduction to the series was obnoxious and his design is very similar to Sonic/Shadow's certainly doesn't mean he's irredeemable). And Chip wasn't that bad either; a bit annoying at times, sure, but certainly undeserving of the amount of hate he's generated.
But this? This is gold, both in comedic value and in concept. If this spawned a separate, meta-universe series of games alongside ones in the first Sonic universe, where all roles are reversed drastically like this, I'd be an avid buyer. It's just a shame that Long John wouldn't be able to do the voice of Robotnik though.

I'm rather shocked at how much people hate the new cast, myself. One of the reasons I often felt that the old Sonic games were somewhat weaker than the Mario games were that they didn't have a strong supporting cast to really pull us into Sonic's world. With the new games, we've been given a good look at the planet Mobius and how it works. Plus, how can you hate characters like the loveable Cream, Cheese, and Big? Or the funny chemistry between Sonic and his die-hard fan Amy? The way Rouge the Bat is always there to double-cross anyone for a quick buck? And, heck, even Shadow? As overhyped as he is, he makes a good evil twin for Sonic!
I really do hope they don't kill everyone off. Seeing this big cast of characters has made Mobius as real a place to me as the Mushroom Kingdom. Whittling everything down to JUST Sonic and Eggman again would hurt the series badly, in my opinion.
