when the world crowds us intoa his-and-hers package
i want to set it on fire
and watch my hesitation
turn into ash
which would be worse:
you cast as the love of a life
too chaotic for just one,
or my transforming
into background noise,
my poems and gifts
all syndicated reruns?
the closest you can get
to belonging to another
is placing your belongings
alongside each other
and not minding the proximity.
i suppose i don't mind yours.
