i have accepted their

as absolute truth
and have made it
my life's work to
speak up for the
weak, the needy
the untouchables
among us un-
willing to be strong

i have drawn the
ire of those i spoke
out against, for
the audacity to
use my power
so as to unseat
their own,
for the faith i
carry like a
tumor in the
unquestioned justice
that i fight for.

i absorb the blows
others avoid,
using my body and
mind and psyche
as both weapon
and shield.

just remember
that every weapon,
even truth,
can be turned
against you,
and a living instrument
can turn of its
own free will.
