Description
I was thinking about this for a long time because I wanted to draw a Zootopia fan art based on A song of ice and fire but I didn't know what to do. The other day I've had and epiphany while I was re-reading the books: I find a lot, really, A LOT of similarities between Judy/Nick and Brienne/Jaime. They have been through the same journey, they've overcome their prejudices, Judy and Brienne have the same sense of honour, and so Nick and Jaime have the same of humor. I don't know... what do you think? CanI be the only one to see these similarities?Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde (c) Disney Zootopia

I get the feeling that Nick is about to go to a chopping block and Judy wants to be the executioner.
All I see is him provoking her further until she accidentally misses just to see the look on his face. XD

A lot of fun. Having only the TV show of ref, I can still see some of that.
I'm indulging a bit of silly with a fan fic that ever so loosely uses elements of the TV Game of Thrones and Zootopia. No dragons and minimal magic of other types, instead the threat is the ambitious Empress who has revoked the great peace between predator and prey. The various Zootopia crew are recast as various characters, of course, though, inspired by the striking look of Lena Headey as Cersei, I made the Empress a stately lioness rather than Belweather. (now just had a thought for her)
If anyone is interested, It's both at AO3 and Fan Fiction Net as "Chair Sports"

Briann it's in love with Jamie but jamie's heart belongs to Cersei... i mean i do see the similarities (Just the political parts are off, i'd weager nick could make a killing Tyrion) While I can see Judy being shunned away in order to be some knight.

You know what, I'm not so sure about Jaime's heart. I don't know If you had read the books, but Jaime hates Cersei right now ( well, sure some parts of him love Cersei too) and while he refused to help Cersei, he didn't give a second thought to help Brienne when she came to him at Pennytree with news about Sansa. Well, yes, even Tyrion was a good idea, but I don't know, Tyrion is the same from the start to finish, while Jaime has became a new person. Nick was always a good guy, but he find the courage to be himself thanks to Judy and also Judy represents everything he wanted to be, just like Brienne is the chivalrous knight that Jaime always wanted to be, but at the end, just according his thoughts "That boy had wanted to be Ser Arthur Dayne, but someplace along the way he had become the Smiling Knight instead"

Book wise we're still in the fifth one with no signals of the sixth. I understand, and i see your point. Problem it's, Jaime it's a knight at heart.
In the show Jamie it's basically the same, if you saw the last episode of course. It's shown how Jamie now knows what he must do, and he's going north to fight the incoming invasion. BEsides, based on the prophesy, he's destined (or tyrion, but jamie fits better) plung a sword throughts Cersei heart.

Ugh! So far they've messed up his redemption arc in the show so badly! It's so annoying! I agree with you though, that in the books he's 100% done with Cersei. Though to be fair, I can see him backsliding a bit when he sees her again in person, longstanding feelings are kinda hard to squash when directly confronted with them. Nick and Jaime did undergo the whole transformation thing (thank god Nick didn't have to come to bodily harm to get there!) and I feel like Jaime in the show is wittier than he is in the books, but maybe I just haven't read them in a while. Perhaps his other parallel to Tyrion would be that both of them were looked down upon by general society. I love this crossover though because it's two of my favorite things in one!

What transformation do you mean?

OnceNeverTwiceAlways In reply to IncognitoMode77 [2017-09-23 04:16:00 +0000 UTC]
Well, from what I remember of the books (its been a while), Jaime was always a good guy too, just far, far more compromised than Nick. Like blood on his hands compromised. I personally really doubt that Nick did anything too terrible based on the way he freaked out (like any reasonable person should! He was totally the voice of reason there) when things went south during the investigation.
That quote that Frava8 said about Jaime wanting to be Ser Arthur Dayne (the living legend and his personal idol) but becoming more like the outlaw he helped chase down instead kind of sums up it up. That and the quote where he says to Brienne how the thing he is most proud of (breaking his oath and destroying his personal honor to save innocent lives) is what he is most reviled for. The show then added to it by having him tell Tommen that sometimes he had to "go away inside" to do what was expected of him (similar to Nick never letting him see that they get to him). All things put together, Jaime wanted so badly to be like the hero from a fairy tale (honorable and trustworthy, and to truly belong in the King's Guard), but was put in a lose-lose situation and then branded by society (before he even had a chance to explain) for making what he felt was the right choice in killing the king to save a city of innocents. He then just gave up on who he wanted to be and rolled with the arrogant villain image since no one was going to believe anything else anyway.
Nick was also branded by society but for a totally different reason, and one that was entirely out of his control: being born a predator. He also chose to give up on his real dreams (of being honorable and trustworthy and belonging to a pack) and just go along with the tide of society instead of fighting it. He too decided to go away inside in order to keep going. Jaime at least earned quite a bit of society's judgement, whereas Nick just had it thrown at him from the time he was born (more like Tyrion I guess in that way). He coped with it by playing up the sly, witty side (also more like Tyrion than Jaime, but both Lannister brothers definitely fell into the same trap of using how society views you as armor to protect your real self).
Overall, both Nick and Jaime feel like they are not writing their own stories and that they will always and forever be defined by society's predesignated label. While they hate it, they have bought into the idea that you can "only be what you are" and what you are is determined by others. There is no choice. There is no alternative. The only power you have is within the role society has predetermined for you.
The transformation that both these characters undergo, in my mind, is not so much new growth but a return back to who they really wanted to be all along. More like a regaining of agency than a new discovery. They both finally found someone who was willing to look past society's label and see them for who they actually were. Both Brienne and Judy are characters whose whole goal is to not let society define them. And Jaime and Nick's experiences with Brienne and Judy who are fighting tooth and nail to buck the system-- while at the same time believing they too could be more-- was what ultimately gave them both the ability to take back some control and shed some of the burdens of society.
Their arcs aren't from bad to good, but from confining themselves within society's views to regaining the control over their own stories. I really loved the imagery that GRRM used in having Jaime sit in front of the White Book and realizing that he was in charge now of writing his own page for the future generations to see. Nick had a similar moment when Judy gave him the application to join the ZPD and he made the choice to accept and complete it then and there (though she then kind of took a bunch of steps back a bit a few minutes later).
I never thought I would spend so much time thinking about this... I guess that's what happens when two of my favorite stories get mashed together! Sorry for the gigantic wall of text for a pretty straightforward question.

Huh! Yeah, something like this...
I also partially had in mind that the 'transformation' you were referring to was in their roles in society. Seemingly with different starts to ends though.
I mean otherwise though, I haven't watched GOT (ASOIAF) so I dunno how I would personally compare Nick with Jaime (or even Judy with Brienne ftm). I might agree their dynamics might be vaguely similar, and their relationship with their respective partners.
Regarding the rest, I will watch GOT to make my overall opinion. Kinda reluctant to compare a small-time scam-artist to the Lord Commander of Kingsguard (or the villianous Kingslayer (and Kinslayer?)). Though I don't want to change others opinions on this...I otherwise get what people might find common in them.
I also get that he has few things common with Tyrion as well (in that he is sly and witty (I suppose more brains than brawn))...hmmm... :/
It might depend on the artist's (and others') interpretation as well.

Oh there are definitely differences. For example, Jaime got everything he seemingly wished for before discovering it was all a sham which is what caused his disillusionment. Nick, on the other hand, got basically nothing he wanted. Jaime seemingly has power (he really doesn't since he is glorified servant and constantly belittled by his father) and Nick is given basically no power by society, but they both feel that they are not in control of their lot in life. Jaime also lives in a society that glorifies killing others and was born to a father who reclaimed their family legacy by wiping a rival family off the face of the Earth completely. So Jaime's moral compass is kind of screwed up to begin with considering that Tywin basically expected Jaime to become the next him (something Jaime never wanted but went with because of his giving into societal expectations). The comparison falls apart if you look for it them to be direct mirrors of each other, but there are definite parallels from a character stand point.
If you haven't read any of books and have not seen the show, I will caution that the show and books diverge greatly from about Season 4 on. Jaime's arc on the show follows the books almost directly (the show actually made him a worse person than the books by having him become a kinslayer at one point, where in the books he is shown as being pretty close to his extended family), but from Season 4 on it goes off radically from the book arc into some frustratingly different direction. It is actually one of the biggest complaints of many book fans that Jaime's character development was basically thrown away for the sake of drama. It made Show Jaime and Book Jaime very different people from Season 4 on. Show Jaime is a lot less redeemable from that point on, in my opinion, though the actor is really, really fantastic. If you are interested in reading the books, which I recommend highly, you can always watch the first season of the show (which is pretty much directly from the books) to see if it's your thing or not. That being said, you still have to read the first book if you go that route since there are some differences. The audiobooks are controversial (people either love or hate them) but are definitely an option too if you don't want to commit to reading such a huge series!
And believe me, I get your skepticism regarding Jaime entirely. When I first started the series, my coworker told me that Jaime was his favorite and I definitely looked at him like he had grown another head. Especially considering he is one of those people who is a complete hopeless romantic and just wants everyone to get along all the time!

I know... But I think that ASOIAF is a grown-up story, while Zootopia is a beautiful movie but it's mainly addressed to children. So I turned a blind eye to the bad things and I've focused on the main similarities and the strong message about biases and moral renewals :>
