Kits saunters forward, shifting her weight to one leg as she stops short. Cocks her head, lifts her chin. Lets her gaze fall to Leliana’s mouth as she opens hers—leaving the proposition dangling on a line.

  “I’ve been doing this longer than you have, you know.” The Nightingale of the Inquisition remains still, relaxed. Kits can feel her breath, warm and soft, on her upper lip. The heat of her body. She has not reached out to touch her…yet.
  “Maybe I’m better at it,” the inquisitor murmurs. Leliana’s lips curl into a small smile at the dare, but she still makes Lavellan wait a few agonizing seconds more. Finally, finally, she takes her face in her hands. Fingers curl around the back of her neck, reach into her hair, slide behind her pointed ear. A thumb moves across her throat, pressing, stopping under her jaw. Leliana gently pulls her forward, whispering,
  “I don’t think so,” against her mouth. A thrill shoots through her as they kiss—different from the satisfied elation that usually comes from such a victory. Leliana may have taken the bait, but there was an eerie feeling she was the one being pulled from the water.
