Description     I decided, while I was boarding out this webcomic issue, that Zos's authoritarian grandmother would live in a stylistic imitation of Napoleon III's apartments in the Louvre
The thought came to me from a memory of being 13 or 14 years old, visiting Napoleon III's apartments, and, while staring up at a monumental portrait of him from one of his various salons, having an immediate dislike for the government of the Second Empire. The antidemocratic authoritarianism, the self-important braggadocio, the seeming lack of taste and originality in Second Empire architecture, the anti-human introversion-projection of the renovation of Paris, the overthrow of the Mexican presidency in favor of a *Hapsburg*; I had an immediate instinct, without knowing much of anything at the time about the Second Empire, that much of what it did was not only wrong, but embarrassing. "History repeats itself, first as a tragedy, second as a farce", Marx said in 1851 after Napoleon III's coup.
In the coloring stage, I decided on a whim that the room would be colored like Volcano Manor in Elden Ring or the cover to Memoire DX by Malice Mizer, as red as a nipple or a placenta and likewise uncomfortably warm, which was *slightly* problematic for the trompe l'oeil relief on the ceiling depicting the bottom of the ocean. Zos's grandmother's dress is derived from a Japanese fashion plate from sometime in the 1880's (European dress cut from Yukata fabric, a common fashion at the time), and his younger brother is based off of a very specific kind of extra who will appear in Shuji Terayama films (moustache, bowler hat, clown makeup, smiling, etc.).
