Description
On this soft pastel on Colourfix paper, I was trying to capture the conflict in the old Mujahideen warrior, with the past and the future as he reflects. I used an abstract background to create a tension between the modern and the past. Hopefully I have given the dignity to a people who have pretty well seen it all and continue to experience even more changes.Related content

i believe that the conflict you are describing is clearly inscribed in the lines of his face and his eyes. at first i took his expression for sadness, but at a closer study his face shows tension.
the way in which he is illuminated suggests to me that he has been put in a place that he would not choose to be in, moreso than that he is reflecting of his own will. but i think that you have captured dignity, and utter humanity.
