Description
For better or worse, I've always had an affinity for beautiful women, motorcycles and vintage cars. I could throw fine wine and great music in there also, but that wouldn't fit the picture.Related content

Your detailing with pastel is quite remarkable. At first glance this could have been airbrush.

Thanks. I had fun with it. Reflections are what realistic art is all about.

Aww, i'm glad to hear that i'm so glad i Joinied Da,
i'm living in a relatively small place working on gettinng my degree at the moment, but the artists at my uni are either (a) total beginners or (B) un approachable "professionals"(snobs). So to be able to view all of the new works of artists such as yourself, and view them closely, ask questions etc is a real bonus! Seriously my work ethic has never been this good!

You know, I think your assesment of a lot of artists is right on. Why the y seem to be so protective of their imaginative status and unapproachable is beyond me. I love to see and appreciate others work of art. They teach and inspire me. I think your wisdom is way beyond your age. P.S. I also agree that DA is a wonderful forum and a treasure house of wonderful people and artists.

That is one -solid- composition. Not only does it invite you to lookβ¦ then realize what youβre looking at, and to delve a little deeper...It also maintains a sense of immediacy thatβs almost intimate and slightly voyeuristic in nature.
Itβs not naughty, but damnit, it COULD be any moment now I think the colors do a marvelous job of heating things up as well. Iβve always been a sucker for richly saturated tones, especially when they are played with so well. Definitely a favorite.
Wonderfully done!

Three things: (1) Thank you very much for the wonderful comments. (2) Your gallery and skin tones amaze me and are an inspiration. (3) Your writing skills are as good as your wonderful art and a delight to read.

Brilliant! The amount of detail is astounding, especially the reflection in her glasses.
Covering the eyes with a different scene brings the eye to the reflection, which is interesting. Were I more informed about art I could state that gracefully, and have a fancy name for it, but alas, I am not.
Lovely use of colors as always!

Okay, I probably shouldn't admit my ignorance, but every interaction I have with you seems to educate me a little. I thank you for that. I wasn't familiar with Janet Fish, so I had to look her up. Fascinating work and and honour to be compared to such a person, albeit in a small comparision. Thank you for your comments. I'm always trying to explore a little.

..and about the Degas.....
I used to teach Art.. and during a class one day we were examining D's works and that slide of "the rehearsal" popped up.. what we think we discovered was that the spiral staircase was a metaphor for a treble-clef, that the floor boards were the notation lines.. the dancers feet being the notes.. ("... and when all the muses join.... then there's dance....") a neat idea that no doubt would be laughed at by art-academics but cogent non-the-less.

i really like your sense of lighting, and the reflection looks great, but the glasses look a little flat to me. i feel as though they should have some roundess to them....but maybe its just me.

freya50 In reply to escapizm [2006-10-08 03:32:52 +0000 UTC]
YOu have keen perception. What you noticed was a choice I made in the beginning, i.e. 1) to make the reflection true to the photo or to reality or 2) to portray what I was feeling and how to best exibit it. I went with the motorcycle scene (which wasn't in the photo) and not distort it, but keep it flat. Thus, you were right, but that is why I did it. Thanks for being so observant.

Wonderful! I love the texture of her skin. I remember our many conversations about "direct and indirect," and how you leaned more toward the direct side of things. But, looking at this, it is obvious that your leaning in that direction was not in the least bit influenced by any lack of skill with the indirect touch. This is a truly marvelous composition.
