Description
Today has been rather tiring.I challenged myself to try out a style, and I feel pretty defeated at the end of this test. But I learnt a lot of things from this style study session.
I studied a few pieces by CBedford, namely:
cbedford.deviantart.com/art/Tu… - which I attempted in no.3, but since I couldn't seem to put the pieces together, I scrapped it and moved on.
cbedford.deviantart.com/art/De… - which is studied in further details, which is in 4 and a little bit of 5, which I let my own hand run away with it instead of focusing so much on making it similar.
1) is what I drew to practice with gold.
2) is what I drew to practice the faces, and to compare it with my usual style (see:friedfoo.deviantart.com/art/St… )
3) Replicating the original is the fastest way to learn. Except I can't seem to do complex things like faces. I should go back to the traditional art school.
There were a few pieces I eyed for a long, long time, but did not try to replicate.
What I could understand from the style is that:
-The artist has a very good eye for colour, the shadows are superbly rendered (and I'm not that good at shadows yet to attempt this), the artist also makes good use of reflection and colour to make the pieces lively. I can see that there's the classic influence in the art, and I probably should learn more from them too.
-The artist is good at drawing noses. And the lips. I probably will have to draw 99999 lips before I can draw lips like these.
-While the artist often use pastel shades, they're good with dark colours and the rest of the color spectrum.
-The use of texture depends on the pieces, but if used then it's used well. Not dependent on textures, which is great.
The skin looks so soft *0*
Ughh I think I'll practice more with these... I can probably get a better handle of shadows lots of practice.

Having read your thoughts and seeing these results is very compelling! I would like to thank you for all the kind words!
Regarding your study: It seems that you;re having a hard time piecing together more complex shapes - I think this is more down to having holes in your knowledge about anatomy overall. You will be able to piece parts of the body together the more familiar you make yourself with anatomy. I suggest studying live models or photographs. Studying another artists work can be great to understand certain techniques but it will be lacking in anatomical information.
On the subject of colour I would again refer to real life studies to be able to understand the relation of colour perception. Familiarising yourself with the colour wheel and some colour theory would help you in the way of learning how to express with colour.
Your sense of texture and brush stroke control is something that I feel will come along as you become more comfortable with the foundations of the first two.
I can certainly see the effort you've put in and wish you luck on your future endeavours!
