Description

A couple months ago I got the itch to try my hand at a couple new #hex themes (it wasn't the familiar withdrawal, genital or bedbugs type itch that's for sure). I started the mental layout, during unimportant shit like driving and whenever a non-hot girl says more than two syllables. I came up with an obscure (not hipster obscure) color that I always really liked, but was ashamed to call it by name (British Racing Green) when asked what my favorite color is. Something that happens two or three times if it's a slow week. The other was from Lenovo's almost non-existent to boring customization options, in most of their phones and devices. So by the end of whatever boring shit my mom was talking about after running in and smiling and hugging me and MSM news, I had that mental crosshair that would put a Lvl. 99 autistic fixation to shame.

This time I wanted the colors to speak for themselves (not literally) and to include subtle references, inside knowledge and details you might only notice after seeing the themes. They were on track to be really good and I was pretty excited for these oddly device specific, paid content themes... What I got after posting both in a creator's high that only happens when making babies or making .png's, were still fair in my mind. Give it two or three days to post to the android only site and get that secondary serotonin boost from seeing my content served digitally and the likes they were sure to get and I always mix lowball estimation with my humility.

What I got was this realization that for one. They were embarrassingly consumerist whore, ass to mouth consumerist whore. Imagine being gangbanged by the forbes 500 and liking it. Secondly, my minimal to basic sensibilities looked cheap and simple. And thirdly, they were sort of well received, so I was getting 0% reinforcement of my repulsion and I lost faith and or preconception of the point behind theming itself and the community at large. In my experience running and shouting for something to be changed, just makes more people notice what offends your eye. So then you contend with more embarrassment from a wider audience and tons more people who know what really gets under your skin.

When I wanted to look at them today in a new light, I forgot that the app is Samsung only and for no good reason, but because I can... I've been daily carrying this neat little Redmi 1s and trying out custom roms on. The screenshots folder came to the rescue and we are viewing them on an alternative art website that I turned into a blog. They still are NOT my best work, but I'll own up to them... like having an ugly kid I guess.
