Josephine and her best friend went on vacation together to New York City. They were just ordinary humans until Josephine and her friend got kidnapped by the Foot clan. Shredder came up with a plan to copy the turtles by creating his own turtle foot ninjas. With the little bit that was left of the stable mutagen, he mutated them into humanoid turtles and used shock therapy on the two to make them his personal killing machines. He wanted them to be as similar as possible so these teenagers were the perfect fit.

After a few weeks of intensive training and torture, the two teenage turtles had become Shredders brainwashed slaves. Then one faithful night, Schredder assigned Dogpound, Fishface and Karai to try and eliminate the turtle brothers once and for all with the help of his new allies. This was a foolish move of the Shredder. His new soldiers (Jo and her friend) weren't ready yet. He got very mad at Hamato Yoshi again after reflecting on the past. When they arrived at the battle field, the turtles were astonished by the sight of two mutants who looked almost exactly like themselves.

The turtle brothers succeeded and won the battle.

Josephine and her friend were left alone by the others, knocked out on the ground. They had noticed the empty, unusual look in their eyes and decided to call Splinter for help and take the two victims to investigate what exactly was going on. Splinter decided to take them to the dojo and perform the healing hand on them.

When awoken, the two had lost most of their memory. Splinter and the turtles talked to them for a bit before agreeing to let them recover at the lair. And so they stayed at the lair, restoring their memory piece by piece. Splinter started training the two ninjutsu because he knew the outside world wouldn't accept them the way they had become. They both got their very own weapon, the bow and arrow for Josephine and a long katana and a short katana for her friend. They got a spare room which they share together. They helped each other out a lot, suffering from homesickness. Josephine wanted to go outside very often, but she wasn't allowed to.

She got emotional pretty quickly, realizing her entire life changed with just one action. She started meditating a lot to clear her mind. She still continued with her other hobbies: drawing and singing.

Splinter gave her a yellow mask, resembling her bright personality. It’s the color of happiness, and optimism, of enlightenment and creativity, sunshine and spring. Though she might lack some of those traits, Splinter chose it wisely for her. After all, she is pretty creative and often seen happy. Like a ray of sunshine!
