... So here we go. I have five more chapters written, just need to draw something for them.PREVIOUS <- -> NEXT
Going on competition with Triss wasn't as nice as you'd think. Escpecially not when he had two horses with him. Triss was a real diva, only talked about himself and what he needed to do (read- that he needed to be able to mingle around and drink like five cups of coffee) while he left Dunai time after time holding a young, excited Krabat in one hand, and an easily spooked Sune in the other. All while he was supposed to fetch Triss his spurs. To say that Dunai muttered many poisonous comments and made death threats under his breath that day was an understatement. But still, Triss was very good as long as he got up in the saddle, then he showed how good he was at focusing and why he had gotten sponsors. Dunai wasn't able to see Triss make his round with Krabat as he had to walk Sune around, but when Triss came out of the ring with a big smile on his face and happily announced that they had made a clear round, he felt really proud for his friend.
It was just a small show jumping competition and Triss mostly just entering it for Krabat to get some experience and with Sune to get, hopefully, some price money. The grey thoroughbred was a great jumper and really fast in the jump-off, so they should be able to get a good placing at their class where the jumps only was standing 130 centimeters. At trainings Dunai knew they had cleared 150 centimeter courses with ease, the same level that Aly and her akhal-teke mare competed in. Or well, if everything went fine, Aly and Nevriye would go on to the even higher class.
Soon it was time for the 130 cm class to begin and Triss jumped up on Sune, that was really eager to get started after walking around for almost two hours, and Dunai got to walk Krabat around. The young gelding still had some energy but was much calmer after he had been in the ring, just looking around curiously, but didn't even spook when a child and a dog came running across their path. Dunai on the other hand muttered bitterly and glared at the mother who shouted after the child but not even trying to follow them. He was really a dressage snob sometimes, hating unruly children and dogs. After walking Krabat around for a while he found a spot where you could stand with the horses and let them graze for a bit as well as get a view on the course. "Perfect! Now I can watch Triss ride" He thought and stopped there, undoing Krabats noseband and curb chain for the gelding to be able to nible at the last strays of grass. Dunai mostly followed the geldings movements as he slowly tried to find the greenest grass, sometimes looking over towards the outdoor arena where the class had started. There was quite a few others who also let their horses graze there and some of them gave Dunai wierd looks. He could admit to himself that he looked a bit misplaced there, dressed in his long designer coat and chinos. He looked like he was about to take a walk along Strandvägen*. It bothered him at first and he almost wanted to ask what was their problems, but then he just let it pass. He woudn't have time to change before going to the airport and if other people had a problem with how he dressed, they could go... themselves.
"Next, Timo Toivonen and Generalen" Dunai heard from the raspy speakers, letting go of his passive-agressive thoughts and looked over to the areana where he saw Triss trot in on Sune. They both looked very focused.
"Come on Triss, go get them!" Dunai shouted down to the arena, smirking to himself as his cheer had irritate some of the handlers around them. Triss on the other hand didn't seem to notice and greeted the judge before getting his signal to start. Dunai watched with excitement, and a bit of tension, as the pair down on the arena made their way through the course. He mumbled to himself, as if Triss could hear his advice, and nervously ran his fingers through his hair as they turned up against the last fence. They cleared it and directly put on some more speed as the jump-off had a flying start for those who cleared the ground course. Dunai saw how they took a really tight turn and grimaced badly, almost not even dared to look as he saw how they came too close and too askew at that high plank. Somehow the grey thoroughbred came over it and that made Dunai shout out again, this time not spooking the horses though. As Triss and Sune flew over the last fence Dunai had forgotten about Krabat and let go of the geldings reins to cheer as the speaker announced that Triss had come in on the second best time. Dunai clapped his hands and then remembered Krabat with a sudden panick. The gelding had just started to walk over towards new grass but Dunai quickly grasped the reins before Krabat knew he was free. He knew that Triss would want to trot off Sune but he could as well head over there at once.
On the way to meet up Triss he picked up his phone to text Aly that had been wondering all day how it was going. Sure, there was a few riders left, but Triss would probably end at least top 5 if not anything extraordinary would happen. He stopped for a moment to write the text and just as he sent it someone touched his shoulder with a small "Oh hi" which made him turn around with a distant "hm?". Before him stood a very cute girl with big eyes and curly brown hair, smiling at him. Her appearence alone made him smile back in the most charming way he could. The girl looked confused and he saw how she started to blush.
"Oh, sorry.. I-I thought you were someone else." She looked from Krabat to Dunai and then back at Krabat again, her cheeks getting even more blushed and she looked really ashamed.
"For you, I can be whoever you want" He said with his most sweetest voice. That made her blush even more, if that was possible, and he could see that she was trying to find something to say. Dunai laughed and shook his head.
"I'm just messing with you! It's my friends horse if it was him you recognized?" Dunais word made the girl relax a bit, even if that rosy tone was left on her cheeks. She cleared her throath a bit and looked at Krabat that was looking back at her curiously.
"Is-is he called Krabat?" She asked shyly, obvious feeling embaressed. Dunai nodded and stroked the chestnut over his neck.
"Oh, you're a fan then?" He looked ad the girl and that made her laugh a bit and she seemed to relax.
"Yes, you could say that! I photographed him at this event a couple of weeks ago and absolutley fell in love with him. He has such wonerful character- and those eyes!" She really sounded enthusiastic and smiled warmly as she let Krabat sniff on her hand.
"Oh, do you photograph professionally?" Dunais question made her look down in the ground, biting her lip insecurly.
"Well, I'm trying to. Mostly it is competitions. It's quite the competition as an equine photograph" She looked up and shrugged lightly.
"It is? Well you should come by our stable sometime and take pictures of our horses. You could probably get some more jobs there as well, there are like fifty horses stabled up there"
"Really? That be fun actually! To photographs this one closer would be delightful" She shone up and looked at Krabat with warm eyes, then looked back to Dunai and smiled.
"I'm Leah by the way." She reached out her hand and Dunai took it, smiling back at her.
"Dunai, nice to meet you." They continued to talk for a while but soon got interepupted by Krabat who raised his head and neighed loudly. Dunai looked back over his shoulder to see Triss come walking beside Sune with a big smile on his face.
"Did you see this beast on that plank? He was amazing!" Triss looked really excited and patted Sune on the neck, making the grey thoroughbred snort loudly.
"Yeah, it was a stupid move, be grateful for his save" Dunai laughed and then turned to Leah.
"I found Krabats biggest fan" He then looked back at Triss who came up to them and looked from Dunai, to Leah, to Krabat and then back to Leah who smiled and waved a bit in the air. Triss smiled back, then looked at Dunai as to say something but it all just went awkwardly silent.
"... so Leah, this is Triss, Krabats owner" Dunai started to present Triss slowly, looking at his friend with a frown. It was not like Triss to go silent like that. Leah cleared her throat and looked around before looking back at Triss.
"We met at a competition earlier this autumn.. I had photographed the two of you." She patted Krabat a bit nervous. Triss seemed to come back to life.
"Oh- right! Yes.. eh, that was some lovley photos. Thanks." Triss seemed absent and was fixing something on Sunes bridle. Dunai still had a frown on his face then looked back to Leah and just raised his eyebrows.
"Okaaaay... so, really nice meeting you Leah! We need to take care of the horses but I'll give you a call next week so you can come out and take some photos of our ponies!" He smiled at her and she smiled back gratefully, like she was happy he ended that awkward moment.
"What? You coming out to our stable?" Triss looked up towards them and Dunai kicked Triss boot at that rude tone he had. He looked back at Leah and smiled apologetic.
"Excuse my friend, he's a bit lost in his own mind after his ride. So, I'll call you later" Leah giggled a bit at his words and nodded.
"Okay, that'll be great" She smiled and gave Krabat a last pat on his neck, then said goodbye to them all. Dunai lead up Krabat beside Triss and Sune and they all four started to walk down th opposite way Leah had gone. When she was out of earshot Dunai gave Triss a light slap on the back of his helmet.
"What the fuck is wrong with you? That girl was like the sweetest thing ever and you act like that? Come on Triss!" Dunai hissed at him but Triss only shrugged like he didn't care. Dunai glared at him then looked at his clock and sighed.
"How many riders are left? I need to go in like 30 minutes to catch my flight." Dunai looked up towards the arena, not noticing the sullen look on Triss face.
(*note: Strandvägen is a street in a very fine part of Stockholm, it's high social status to live there)

What on earth is Triss's problem? Such a sweet girl, really and he acts like that. Also, Dunai looks very fancy indeed. Wouldn't mind him holding my horses at an event.
Can't wait for next part!
