Description
───── ⋆⋅◈⋅⋆ ─────Weeks passed by. All came and all went. Some people grouped up into the mall and soon the furniture store was full of new families and individual people. By the end of the month Velma had a small group of mostly men and few women offering to help build other sections of the mall. During a meeting between herself, Daisy, and Daphne Velma had some ideas yet to make.
The room was a model dining room. A chandelier dangled above them. The design being only a few circles above the wooden glossy table as four wooden chairs were at all sides. A centerpiece of false roses in a basket was pushed to the side to make way for Velma's computer. Velma pushed the chairs all on one side so her two comrades could get a good view of the map. The night was young on the above glass roof, a small one that only went glass above the kitchen areas.
"I'm excited honestly about what to make first." Velma said with a hidden smile buried deep under her calm demeanor. "I've already mapped out what I want to see built but I have no clue what's more important out of these..." Velma admitted. Daphne peaked over at Velma's computer screen. "So this is why you've dragged us here at three in the morning... Seems about right, I think the armory would've been better closer to the hospital though don't you think? It'd be more protective no?" Daphne asked. Under thick glasses she rolled her eyes not caring if Daphne saw this or not. "That's beyond the point, and what matters now is we decide for the good of the society what we construct first. Velma, I'm flattered you chose us to help," Daisy said very maturely. The scientist smiled a slight bit. "Well you two got the best heads on your shoulders out of everyone. And I know I can trust you two." She added adjusting her glasses. Daphne crossed her arms. "I'm glad to see you trust me," Daphne almost spat as she made the polite comment as if it were an insult. If Velma hadn't taught herself apathy she wouldn't take it with a grain of salt. "ANYWAY... What was I saying?" Velma rubbed her head. "Sorry its late. In hindsight we should've been able to do this during the day. I guess its not like it matters if anybody overheard us..." Daphne itched her neck. "Really?! This is unlike you, Velma! You're starting to sound like Shaggy!" The insult turned to a tease. Still it was mockery nonetheless. "Anyone with a brain knows Shaggy is way more wild about Daisy. And I know...I'm sorry I'm just not thinking things through. Also its a bad move on my part to allow that... As leader I should be more aware of things like this and I promise I'll do better... Now let's just get to work..."
By the end of the month a new family came in. They helped make the hospital. Which was perfect given that Daphne had already realised she was then with child. Of course this made her even more intolerably moody and cruel. And of course, made Fred more of a thorn in her side. Making Daphne further moody and cruel. Thus the cycle went on....and on...and on...and on...and-
"Velma? Are you up?" Shaggy asked. He was sitting on her bed next to her side. Velma could easily see the bearded man in the low light. "Am now...what's going on?" She asked. "Its Saturday..." He whispered. Something about Shaggy whispering made Velma's insides turn all thin and fluttery. "Where to now then?" She asked sitting up, now fully awake as she put on glasses. It was summer. So her pajama top laid loose in tank top form as she didn't sleep with pants on. "We could always get more clothes what with the changing weather..." Shaggy admitted thinking as he noticed Velma's shirt. Velma shrugged. "Fine by me." And got out of the sheets not acknowledging or caring if Shaggy noticed her without much coverage. He himself was only wearing a tee shirt and briefs.
Velma and him only wore robes and pajamas with slippers for protection. They had long established comfort between each other. So there was no urge to really get fully dressed. Especially since the two would try on new outfits.
"The night feels so early..." Shaggy admitted. "Yeah...the whole thing feels early..." Velma admitted. Shaggy raised a brow. "Thing?" Velma nodded. "Our stay here. Feels like we just got here is all." Shaggy laughed a bit. "Yeah. Feels like we just arrived. I like, thought you meant something I wasn't getting," Shaggy grinned. The short woman swatted the air. "Everyone doesn't get what I say. But given all that happened I guess they better learn..." She admitted this as she started walking up the escalator. Shaggy scratched at his beard. "I figured I was the one who understood you most...!" Shaggy called from the bottom step as he tried catching up. He was out of breath by the time he met up with Velma at the top. "Smoking too much of the blunt?" She teased with a grin. Shaggy made a grumpy frown as he held his stomach. "Asshole," he grumbled. Velma punched his shoulder. "For what its worth if you got any on you I'm willing to try." She admitted as she kept walking leaving Shaggy in the dust. "Duly noted. I'll bring it next week." He confessed.
Given a bit of time the two found themselves in a store good for summertime clothes. Velma had her eyes on men's hoodies first thing. Shaggy noticed that right away... "Y'know I never got why girls love stealing their boyfriend's hoodies?" Shaggy asked crossing his arms. Velma shrugged. "Can't honestly say. I wasn't even living with a man at any point other than family. How the hell should I know?" She said turning to him. "I thought you said you've been in love once..." Shaggy told her as he started leaning against a wall. "You remembered me saying that? Well...yeah. But love doesn't equal shit it seems. After all, I mean look at me. I don't run through a field of naked men in the morning. And couldn't even if I wanted to," Velma joked as she turned lights on throughout the store. Shaggy followed along.
"Like, you haven't ever been kissed?"
"Once... and it was a terrible regret,"
Shaggy remembered his first kiss at a dance and his first time in a bathroom stall. He really missed highschool... He wondered what highschool was all about for Velma? How bad could it have been?
"What was there to regret?"
Velma went silent.

"Is that Animal Farm?" The boy named William asked. Velma nodded. "I've been wanting to get into George Orwell for a while now actually. I figured his most famous piece would be a good start," Velma admitted. Something about the little blonde boy seemed safe to tell her stories to. "You'd love Lord of the Flies then. Kinda the same concept. Not really about Communism though, more of a societal structure and when it comes down on itself." Velma wasn't certain how to reply. She thought about looking at the piece she had heard so much about. "You got a-"
"-I can lend you a copy if you want," William chirped. Velma liked his quick wit. She didn't mind a guy like this leading her. It was good to let herself take seat for once. So she borrowed the book. And read it all night long and loved it. Putting a note card with her number in it so they could text on their BlackBerries. And weeks went by if the same routine. A book was shared and they talked about it. Then they learned more of each other through their tastes. William was a boy from Scotland. He liked old philosophy stuff. And Velma was from America. And she had her interests in science. Combining their interests they talked of conspiracy theories and the like. And for once Velma had a crush. The crush led to her going to her first school dance.
A single dance track playing, a orange and yellow dress that flowed in some few directions. Her hair up. Her first time in heels. Her first time in lipstick. It was her mother's. And her mother gave her pearl necklaces to drape on her chest. And she kissed William that night. Just as the first slow dance kicked in.
For this, William was bullied by everyone for dating her. He had been beaten in bathrooms and mocked on his school desk. Slandered in graffiti. Pictures of him and the brunette surfaced and shared amongst laughing students and their mocking grins.
By the end of Summer, Velma was draped in some makeup and her hair in bows. Her red shoes tapped as she walked to his figure talking to a female friend of his. Velma didn't mind. She found it great he was making companionship. That she hadn't hurt that. That despite her being an indirect cause of other's hatred, William could still find himself happy and with people he cared about. "Wil-!"
The thud her body made when she fell over seemed to echo. Had she interrupted the wrong person? This wasn't William was it...? Yet with a second look, despite the blur she had without her glasses, he was still William. With herself in focus without her glasses she managed to realise the laughter. She felt around for her glasses expressionlessly in the silence. But the sound of the crunch near her hand told her what William had done to add the insult to injury. And she had to go home.
She sulked into her fathers car. She had been made by him to clean off the mud from her clothes before she could sit on the expensive leather. She found it understable as anyone would have her clean up first. As she sat in the seats she remembered girls in the bathroom talking about what happened. The comedic side of it all. And now Velma sat as she heard her father. "You're too weak to handle yourself without a man? You relied on someone else? Pathetic. Your mother did the same thing to me just so she could pay for her stays in the mental institute. Don't be so useless like her! You never needed anyone to help you survive before have you?! If you start that up you'll never be able to get out of it!" The insults kept on hitting her like a bat. But they echoed and resonated with her forever.

Even now as she stepped out of the changing room. She wore a orange shirt and blue jean shorts. Shaggy took in the role of a fashion designer now. "Give me angry Darling! Poised! Punctual!" Shaggy chirped as he fluffed her hair with the back of her hand. "Give me pretty! Smart! Cool! Look superior dahling!" He teased. Were these compliments? Velma caught herself smiling. Getting clothes would've been so normal without Shaggy. Admittedly, she would feel so naked without him. And if she learned one thing over her lifetime and the whole situation she'd been through is that she needed other people. And if her father considered that weak, he should've realised that he died the way he wanted. Alone. And to Velma, she now realised it was the weakest death of all.
So Velma posed in a mock pin up girl style before laughing and blushing. Covering red cheeks. "Remind me never to do that again!" She cackled. Which Shaggy had fallen over laughing at. "Too brilliant to forget Velma! Too perfect!"
