Ikki Takeuchi was one of the scholars sent to America during the Meiji Period of Japan to deliver the ratified Harris Treaty. He lived a majority of his youth under the tutelage of Meiji scholars who served a local Daimyo and handled his clerical needs. Once he had reached adulthood he was offered a position in the capitol to become a scholar for a wealthy aristocrat that recently dispossessed his vagrant son and needed an heir and had received a recommendation from a friend that he had a young man of proper manner that he could send over. Once Ikki arrived in his new dwelling and met with his adoptive family things seemed to be looking good for him and his future. A few years pass with little to no issue, Ikki (now 24) and his adoptive family became quite close rather quickly and he had settled into his new life. Even getting a marriage offer from a couple wealthy families who had young daughters of betrothal age. That's when the aristocrats son, named Tatsumaru, returned home from his wandering journey. Contrary to Ikki's belief that he was but a mere replacement for Tatsumaru and that he would be disposed of now that Tatsumaru had returned, Tatsumaru immediately became quite good friends with Ikki and seemingly had no disposition for his place in the family back. Tatsumaru however, had quite the list of men who would want his head.

Tatsumaru was a rather strapping young man, a wandering sword for hire, and something unknown to him and even his parents was his new friend Ikki's disposition towards men. Also undenounced to Ikki was his new friend Tatsumaru's quiet infatuation with him. Eventually figuring each other out after spending countless hours together, they became an item in secrecy. Tatsumaru would sneak off to Ikki's chambers on many a night and the two shared many conversations and intimate moments together. After some time, on the night of Ikki's 25th birthday, the two made love many times over into the late of the night. When Tatsumaru was heading back to his room from something was different. there were no guards around the estate and no lanterns were lit and instead, Tatsumaru was only met with cold steel and a warmth welling up in his throat. A figure cloaked in pitch black garb had pierced a blade into his stomach. Tatsumaru's past of vagrancy had finally caught up to him. Once the morning came, Ikki was awoken by a loud commotion around the estate and went out promtly to investigate. What he was met with was the sight of his beloved, face down on the floor and his stomach flayed open, it's contents spread across the floor. It was deemed that Tatsumaru had committed suicide and that it was a truly unfortunate event. Ikki believed that their affair had caused his lover to end his own life and only blamed himself turning to self-harm, even going as far as dragging fishing hooks across his face. His guilt was evident and every-visible to those around him, and eventually he was brought before his adoptive father and questioned about Tatsumaru's death. Ikki confessed everything to his father, how they had become lovers, and how Tatsumaru must have killed himself after they became one that night some time ago. Ikki blamed himself for everything that had happened and his father, disgusted with the actions of his sons, declared that Ikki would be executed for the charge of leading another to kill himself. So, he was executed under false pretense and went to his grave thinking he had caused the death of his beloved.
