Fly

I saw a bird today.
It was a bird struggling to fly
And not too long ago I was that bird
That same bird stuck in a gust of wind
Unable to take full control of myself
Unable to rip away from the current
Being thrown in different directions
Not even sure which way was up or down, right or left
Yet I didn't even care.
It was almost as if I was trapped in space
Time wasn't moving
Or maybe it was moving, just faster than I
And then there was this emotion
Somewhat of a hatred inside, building slowly
Why?
Sitting here and thinking about it…I can't recall a reason…
I just remember my blood fueled with anger.
Angry at the world?
At God?
The universe?
Perhaps myself…
Then I met you.
Life started moving again
Pulsing with this energy I can barely come to understand
Rushing through me, feelings I didn't think were possible
What was it?
I couldn't even begin to describe it
Yes, I had the same old life, the same old schedule
But you were there.
And you are there.
You are here.
Even if not physically,
You are here.
In my mind, with every thought.
In my heart, with every beat.
In my soul and changed existence.
Every beautiful day I wake to is a reminder of you
I'm trying so hard.
So hard to think of ways to say it aloud
The easiest way is of course those three words
But I don't want it to be easy
Which is why I don't say them too often
As far as how I feel those words don't do any justice
What I will say is this-
Your mere presence has created a new light in my life
Pulling me from my own prison
You may not realize what you've done
But know I am forever thankful
For this bird can now fly free.
