Description
A comparison of 16th century carnival to modern-day fan conventions. This was drawn for a creative assignment for one of my lit. classes.PS: legit haven't drawn since 2013, wtf....
Anyway, the things that are similar: the gathering of a large group of people in a festive-manner (drinking, excess, buying merch, etc.); also, both activities challenge the gender binary and work to remove separation of social class—everyone is considered equal; costumes and masks are common apparel for carnival/convention goers.
Took about 8 hours, used pencils ranging from 5H to 10B and a 0.45mm Micron marker for the character outlines.
I sampled this drawing for some of the 16th century characters and architecture.
