Description There's so surprise that my OTP of the Simpsons is Burns/Smithers Sr. despite the latter's short appearances in the show (been The Blunder Years and To Cur with Love most relevant). And because of the lack of information but assuming the equality both Monty and Waylon Sr shared in those episodes, even with some interesting facts from people who helped to produce The Blunder Years, people can assuming that there's more than a conventional business partnership, going even to a very friendship (Monty called him Waylon and vice versa) that because of Wyalon Sr.'s demise, Monty felt into grief that changed his usual happy behavior into a miserable and grumpy one, seen in the actuality.

As for Burns/Smithers. I ship them too but not to deeply as the first one, because at the several facts that gives him such huge flaws (I'm not saying Monty/Waylon Sr is perfect, is mostly about balance). While his father is confident and self-made, Waylon Jr. is so indulgent, with a lack of confidence, all around in those sick love eyes around Burns. And having thoughts that couldn't draw the real limit between love and lust. It's just a complex case. And Burns, even if he keeps around him and liking his company, mostly of times he have lack of patience around his assistant, don't understanding his behavior that could be so troublesome in the sake of business. And any one could feel awkward and upset in case someone hold it tightly, trying to find more respect and finding the other's actions even deplorable. You can see 's post about his visions of those kind of relationships and could a thing like Burns/Smithers couldn't happen in real life because their destructive nature: chequerootlurks.tumblr.com/pos…

We can thing that Burns respected and admired Waylon Sr. because he was not only very intelligent, but confident and trustful. A person who couldn't hesitate twice in order to express their opinions and complains at Burns' face, don't caring about any consequences. For a reason Burns never fired him! And Smithers in another hand, he just cared too much about pleasing his boos instead of giving his own opinions about something that he was even willing to have inferiority complex. For that been fired affected him a lot because he's never ready to any bad consequences (the double episodes Who Shot Mr. Burns shows that case).

So in case you love someone but that person doesn't love you back, you have to move on. And in the case the feeling is mutual, you need to work a lot in order to balance the things for the sake of each other, not only one of them. Love is mostly balance and respect. If one treat the other badly, that can't be real love.

C. Montgomery Burns, Waylon Smithers Sr. and Jr. (c) Matt Groening
