Description
This is a picture I had to draw for my classical rendering class at Savannah College of Art and Design. I dunno how long it took, but I think it was completed in one sitting. Its a study of a still life drawing that was done at the "French Academy", somehow I think there is a more veracious name. So this picture is a copy of a copy; as you would tell a story to your friend, "I went out to buy some candy.", after so many retellings the story becomes, "Chad stuck a baby with candy pitchfork."The original was much better, here you have a baby getting stuck with a candy pitchfork.
All drawn with an Strathmore 8B pencil on relatively big ass white paper. Bigger ass than 8 1/2 x 11 and an ass.

Such an amazing sense of smoothness and shadow, it really does make it feel as though it were marble.

you have done an amazing job here with the shading, it looks photoreal.
it's surprising to me because (and please don't take this the wrong way) it stands head and shoulders above most other works in your gallery -- a sign of great potential!

nearing the bottom it gets a little messy, but the rendering of the torso is absolutely grand and clean. nice contrast. if you call this a "baby stuck with a candy pitchfork" i can only imagine what the original looks like

The actual cast is the Belvedere Torso. You made a copy of a Bargue drawing. It is a very nice one at that.

Beautiful. The original is from Picasso. He drew it at the age of 14 if I remember correctly. However it is possible that he copied it too...

do you think you could practice copying master works for free, without a school? it'd be a lot cheaper and produce the same result? or is your school th shit?

This is a great achievement! The shadow treatment is impecable and that bold outline reminds me of Mucha's drawings| trés art-nouveau, and yet academic! It's adorable! congrats!

Hey Gammon, looks very nice. About the "more veracious name". It's called a Barque drawing. At the Atelier Lack in Minneapolis theres a course designed for that kinda stuff.. Though, in my first year of there I've never done one. I just went straight into Plaster Cast Drawings. And believe me.. I know there a son of a bitch to draw and render.. All in all though it looks pretty good. Be proud of yourself.
