I'd say it's a crimson, and that's just how they transform. If you look closely enough (and have good color-vision) you can see that the shadowy thing
actually has a hint of very dark red.
I mean, classic changeligs transform by green flames, so maybe the crimson ones have a more smoke-like tranformation.
