I will go tomorrow to a traditional Dia de Muertos celebration

Uuuh... I find it much more gloomy than "traditional" representation of Death! at least "our" Death doesn't smile, or anyway Her (in Italian, as in Spanish, Death is feminine, so I use "her" ^^) smile is invisible!
I want to learn more about this representation, hope to find some information on Google!
Amazing! *__*

I'm so glad you like this one
In Mexico (and I mean based in our prehispanic roots, not in the spanish heritage) we have 3 representations of the Death (if you look for mayan, aztec or some other prehispanic mexican cultures you will find that even they change a little bit the dressing and style, the skull will be always smiling)
This sculpture it represents the Lord of the Death (exactly the same meaning as the greek gave to Hades)
There's "The Death" in a female version that was the one that cut the strings of the life. The Spanish turn it into a wicked character that now we know as "Catrina"
And the third one it's a skinless Chihuahua dog, named Xoloexcuintle (yeah and it's not a joke) that it's the one who takes the lost souls from the real world to the land of the dead (very close to Dante Aligheri's character of the "Infierno" Caraonte)
