Since Lin Beifong is the only daughter of Toph Beifong who took over as police chief when her mother retired, but unlike her mother's personality, Lin is sometimes mean, rude, grumpy, and a little selfish when she had a very difficult childhood when her mother, Toph had dating problems when her father Kanto divorced when Lin was very young, and then dated another guy and gave birth to Suyin, but things have gotten much worse when Lin and Suyin had a tense sibling rivalry and family drama when Lin caught Suyin aiding a robbery by driving a getaway car, only to be stopped by Lin. As Lin was about to apprehend her half-sister, Suyin, she cut the line by metalbending her wrist guard, which snapped back at Lin and scarred her face. Afterward, the two sisters were brought by Toph, who expressed her anger at them.
