Description Hi, all !!!

I have been a user of Deviant art for many years now , but I never really had the guts ... and well the time to upload anything, so this is my first item. As you can probably tell from the image I am actually an Engineer by degree ( on going ) and I work using CAD packages ( this was done in solidworks ).

As for the engine in the picture, this is a custom 610cc 6 cylinder boxer turbo compound engine, yes a bit of a mouth full.

Turbo compound engines are a rear thing these days, they actually don`t exist anymore as they were only used on some WW2 bombers as they allowed for a great increase in horse power without an increase in fuel consumption. The way they work is basically like a turbo supercharger which is linked to the crankshaft thus not only compressing more air for combustion but using the exhaust jet to help spin the crankshaft, thus recovering a lot of extra wasted power.

These were made obsolete for aircraft use since the jet age came along as jets are a lot more simpler ( less parts to go BOOM ) and they were never used in cars since F1 banned them due to fear of the F1 cars developing too great power

Cool.  I don't think anyone else ever designed a turbo-compound boxer engine.  The WWII aircraft engines were either multibank radials or V-twelves.  And yes, they went away when jets and turboprops proved to be cheaper and much more reliable.  One engineer remarked that when they started to get more power from the turbine than from the pistons, they realized that the piston engine was mostly serving as an expensive and absurdly complex gas generator.

that's really good looking man, and very innovative idea taking that system off an old bomber
