Description WARNING: Long and Narrow.

Okay, I decided to just do a quick cel shade cg tutorial on eyes....specifically Fujioka Haruhi from Ouran High School Host Club, because that was the picture I was working on and I've already having a collection of Hikaru and Haruhi artwork I'm making bwahhaa....Anyways...

Er, it is not really a tutorial, just some steps I take to making the eyes. Hope it help in some way or another. Also one more big tip: THINK SHAPE! When it comes to shadow and highlights, its all about the shape.

EDIT: Just correcting my English...Thank for pointing them out ahaha.

Yea. but some people are really good with mouse (*joodlez , ~kurot , *gemiange ) So it doesn't matter what medium. You just have to have the skills or practice ^^

was this all done in one layer o_O it looks as if it was..
and I thank you sooooooooooooo much > it almost has the same look as ones that take 10 layers. which is amazing! and SO helpful @_@

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

gem2niki In reply to Ashley-Himura [2006-07-26 03:44:24 +0000 UTC]

Yea, my comp can't too much layers anymore. So this is all done in one layer ^^ You just have to be careful not to go over the line, or just recolor the area you colored over.
You're welcome.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ashley-Himura In reply to gem2niki [2006-07-26 04:05:55 +0000 UTC]

I used to color everything in one or two layers X_X; I was doing it the hard way, as most people say..
but do you color the same? o-o how many layers do you normally use for an *entire* piece?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

gem2niki In reply to Ashley-Himura [2006-07-26 05:19:15 +0000 UTC]

For Photoshop, usually I do the skin and eye on one layer...then I start another layer and flatten them each time I work on another part, so my computer won't crash. So for something like Ouran host club, its about 4-5 layers total, depending on the complexity of the pic. It just depends~~ like if there are patterns on a shirt, another layer is added...etc etc.

But on Painter, I keep to only one layer for coloring. Its just easier to manage with painter.

sure you don't mean "cel shading?"

[link]

gem2niki In reply to sbv20 [2006-07-26 03:45:37 +0000 UTC]

Yea D: Is there a difference...noun vs verb?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sbv20 In reply to gem2niki [2006-07-26 12:59:11 +0000 UTC]

no difference, "cel" is the industry abbreviation of cellulose nitrate, the material cartoons have often been drawn on. somehow "cell" became a common misspelling, I think because people associate cartoons with cells, or little blocks, of color.
