Zim sighed as he looked at what was last on the list; a bed time story. Mother Irk, smeets need quite a routine before they recharge in sleep. He finished slipping the children's pjama's on, and picked both up, seating himself under the covers. "Alright, it says on this 'to DO' list, I have to read to you."

"Stow'y!" Talia chirped, pulling a big hardcovered book up into his lap.

Zim disdainfully peered down at the cover of the book: "The Ugly Duckling". Why on irk do I have to read about filthy fluffly farm aninals?! He only sighed, flipping open the book and beginning to dully read out the dialogue on the pages "Once upon the time, there was an old pond.." As he went on with the story, the children's eyes became listless and they gave sighs of boredom, hoping for something more interesting. Talia looked up at the ceiling, and blew on one of her purple curls. Zim caught the uninterested expressions and smirked. Seems like I'm not the only one that hates this stupid book.

Finally, GIR said it: "this is booorin'.... Do ya got any other stories?" he asked, hopefully. "about piggies?"

"'N fightin'!" Talia piped in, her irken blood shinning through her at the moment.

Zim sighed and flipped through the pages; there was nothing but uninteresting trash. "Well, uhh....." His antennae perked up a little as he grinned. "Actually, I do have one I think you'll both find interesting."

"Read it!" GIR exclaimed, bouncing on the bed a little.

"Umm..." Zim pretended to be flipping through the book to something else, and tried to conjure up the story in his mind. "Oh, um, there is a story about uhh...a little hybrid and a SIR unit!"

Both eyes went wide at that: "Really? Read!"

With another smirk, Zim looked down at the pages. Kids are so gulliable. "Once upon a time, on Planet Conventia, and during the Great Assigning, there was a little SIR unit named GIR." He gave a small grin when he heard GIR give a squeal of delight. "GIR was different from the other SIR units.." He narrowed his eyes at GIR - whose antenna drooped a little. "He was a malfunctioning unit, constantly glitching, misbehaving, and never doing what he was supposed to do. But that," he said, with a mischevious twinkle in his eye, "is what made him so special than the other robots.." He watched as GIR's antenna perked up and he beamed at his master. As Zim went on, talking about his faithful little robot, and the young hybrid, both children snuggled closer, looking up at Zim, deeply intrigued. Eventaully, Zim shut the book and just recited it all as it came from his brain; it turned out to be far more special than the old book was.

Story time was definitely different that night.

Sneak peek from one of the chapters that will be LOVED in my fic. When Dib leaves for the ENTIRE day, Zim is left in charge of the kids. He isn't too happy about that, but eventually gets into it in story time.

I put GIR and Talia in their little jammies.
