Description
He slammed his door and glared around the room with tears stinging his eyes. His hand found his pillow and hurled it to the floor--just needing to vent his frustrations out in some manner. He could hear the knocking at his door but he ignored it and scowled when the door opened anyway."Steven?"
"Go away, Pearl," he tried to snap and it just came out as this sniffling little snort. "I want to be alone." He tried to hide the tears by pulling his shirt collar up over his face but the flash of maternal concern indicated that Pearl had seen them.
"What's wrong?" she tried gently. When he stubbornly ignored her she set a gentle hand on his arm. He yanked the shirt off his face with a wail.
"All day I watch you guys train and use your gems and cool weapons--or I have to stay home during missions and I miss everything you do!" He glared at his stomach and swatted at it with a surge of anger. "All because this stupid thing won't work!" Instantly, he felt a pang of guilt and winced at his own words.
"Stupid… No, no, no, Steven," the woman soothed, her thin hand wiping off the tears streaming down his face. "Don’t be discouraged! You have so much potential as a Gem. You just haven’t found your focus yet."
Her gem glowed, and a tiny hologram of Steven shone before them. It bounced around with its form’s regular enthusiasm, giving a wave to the couple.
Pearl smiled. “You just need to find your center.” The hologram morphed into a sphere, which spun around the smaller’s head. “Focus can be difficult to achieve, and it can be frustrating for someone your age… But you’ll get it.”
The child watched the sphere spin around and float back into her forehead. "But how?" he sniffled. "When will my gem be good enough to finally go on missions and stuff? When am I gonna get to pull a cool sword or whip out of my stomach? And when will I be able to transform and NOT do something dumb like turn my hands into cats?"
"Soon," Pearl soothed. "You have to be patient, Steven. You'll learn soon enough. This isn't something that will happen overnight."
The boy was disconsolate though and he pulled away from her, balling up as he continued to sniffle and choke out squeaky little sobs. "But what if I never do? What if I never learn how to control it? What if..." His eyes widened in horror. "What if I'll always be
Pearl bit down on her tongue and sighed. Her kernels of wisdom were getting nowhere. The boy just wouldn't listen to reason. Perhaps...a different tactic. "Well, what's wrong with Regular Steven?" The child stared at her like she had three heads.
"What's wrong with Regular Steven?" he repeated incredulously. "Regular Steven can't shape shift or jump super high or even lift more than like twenty pounds!"
Pearl smiled gently and reached for the boy. He tried to bat her away, but undeterred, Pearl pulled the boy into her lap. "Maybe not," she said smiling. "But Regular Steven can make anyone happy. Regular Steven makes breakfast for everyone just so they don't forget to eat together. He throws birthdays to make up for all the ones that were never celebrated. He's there as a constant ball of happiness to remind people to smile." Tearful wide eyes looked up at her and she continued. "You might think there's nothing special about Regular Steven..." she smiled gently. "But his friends--his team mates--his family...would be nothing without him."
"Really?" the boy asked in a hushed whisper.
"Regular Steven is perfect the way he is," Pearl told him and she softly cupped his head in her hands. "And I'd love you no matter what kind of Steven you are."
Steven gave a wobbly smile and he nuzzled right into her. "You're perfect the way you are too..."
Pearl's cheeks flushed a soft blue tinge and she held the child closer. "Thank you...Steven...." she whispered as a small blue holographic heart floated above them.

Every time I see these two I think of a mother and a child and I know a lot of people love Mama!Pearl too so for once I'm not alone lol. I just can't get enough of these two. I'm gonna be drawing them for the next like ten years. Might make a story/series of oneshots.

It would be so sweet if this would happen in the show.
The show's just about over, of course, so i guess fanart and fanfics will suffice.

Not just nice art. But wow that was a really sweet story as the first said. Including it does capture the whole mother and child concept. Really I think you got it down. Just saying that was grand.
