Description
Atargatis, in Aramaic βAtarβatah, was a Syrian deity, "the great mistress of the North Syrian lands" Rostovtseff called her, commonly known to the Greeks by a shortened form of the name, Derceto or Derketo and as Dea Syria, "Goddess of Syria", rendered in one word Deasura. She is often now popularly described as the mermaid-goddess, from her fish-bodied appearance at Ascalon and in Diodorus Siculus, and also, as the first mermaid.a OOOOOLD draw for myths & legends... arround a year or more, i done it in very very rush, cause was dropped by other illustrator and the set was near to be on print (i hate deadlines XD)i finish it at time... but i never like the printed version so i took a time for edit this pic and do a new version.
graphire 3/ Photoshop CS / 3 hours in the original + 2 more for the current edit
music: Crucified - Atargatis (btw, the band haves the same name of this pic, i love this song)

Since the only thing I don't like in your art is feet, this one had to be perfect ^___^ the fins are so fine! Marvellous.

At least you finished it. I rarely finish within a deadline. I've never thought about mermaids having fins on their backs but since they are fish it would only make sense. Have you ever considered putting scales on her tail?
