If you've never used Photoshop [or any other graphics software] it can be overwhelming at first. As with anything, there's a learning curve. If you have prior experience in other software, you've got a leg up already.
There's a certain logic to the core of Photoshop works that's slightly different from other such software. It clicked for me immediately because I'd been conditioned to think a certain way about how to see the world around me.
Having worked with 3D software, I can honestly say Photoshop is a hell of a lot easier to figure out than any of them.

Definitely a kickass piece. And there's really no other way to describe it. Every stroke, every tonal arrangement, every single fiber within this image seems to be made for the intend to getting a "kickass" reaction. The flowing perspective augmenting a gigantic character. Ornate armor that screams bring it. The ominously waving chains in his unrelenting grip. Goodness, I'm not one who commonly sees angels as Patrick Swayzee rough house neck breakers, but truth be told, this is one fat cat I don't want to encounter in a tavern brawl.
