Description
N I G H T S H I F TThis is the second piece of a series I decided to dedicate to a certain group of people who are characteristic of the Ruhrgebiet (Germany) - I am talking about shopmen who run a so called "Kiosk", "Bude" or "Trinkhalle".
These places are far more than just a newspaper kiosk; it is more a solid root of social life, as the neighbourhood meets there.
Those places do not have a sophisticated interior decoration - none of them. But they are all different. You can feel this difference in the first moment you enter such a place comparing it to the one you have visited before.
The difference makes the person behind the counter - it´s this person´s personaltiy turning this shop in to a very special place; it is actually no wonder as some of those shops have a direct connection to the flat of the shopowner. They have a hard job, opening at 5:00 am and closing sometimes at 1:00 am, running their tough business 7 days a week.
Above you see Mr. Samadi, who came from Afghanistan and made a brand new start with his shop almost ten years ago. His clients overassess his kind and gentle being. He is very proud that his childern achieved a proper education.
In summer there´s a television on the green table you see in the window facing the street. A respectable part of the neighbourhood meets there in mild summer nights to enjoy football.
comments, favs and certainly critiques are more than just welcome!
have a great weekend,
chris.

You've played well into the frame here, lending depth to a glass wall, containing the busyness so that it doesn't distract the viewer, and compositionally, it's brilliant.
Well themed, I should mention, looking at the times as they are today.
I've been thinking about your style lately, do you mind if I ask how long you've been shooting?

Thank you very much...I am shooting for 15 years now with great gaps. I recovered photography 2 years ago again and started to develop something new...I am not sure if I am successful with my goal, but your comment is very encouraging! Thank you again.

It's interesting.
There is an undeniable level of organization and planning to your work.
I think that's my favorite part, how even though you have series and sets,
the work as a whole goes well together from start to finish.
In this day and age, you've found a clean and beautiful way to distinguish yourself from millions of other photographers, and that certainly is a feat.
One last point to make, the most important point;
You don't seem to be stagnating or slowing down.
I'm perfectly willing to believe that one of the biggest plagues in art is how easy it is to stop innovating and developing once you've reached a suitable skill level.
Of course, this isn't just about talent and picture quality, I'm talking about concepts.
The thought process.
Either way, I'll be around for some time to come,
if you don't mind me bouncing some ideas off of you in the future for feedback.
God Speed mate,
David Rin

Nice theme Chris, and a nice shot. The kiosk's place in German society is very interest, very different from anything I've seen before, and I too have often wondered about the proprietors. Its true, its very long hours every day of the week, and you see the same faces behind the counters. I look forward to more in this series.

love this series.
nowadays, we do very similar things in all over the world.
i am so excited to see something that i do not see in my place.
i have learned many things just by looking at this shot.
it is very intriguing to see all exotic brand names and what he carries in his store.
the story about TV on green table sounds very sweet of him.
great capture and description!

I know, but there´s still a differece between a british corner shop and the ones you can find here - a difference which is really hard to describe.

Super Idee und ein großartiges Bild! Ich kann dir nur zustimmen. Ein Kiosk ist mehr als nur eine kleine Bude, da steckt immer viel Charackter und Leben drin.
