Chapter 2: The Unseen DreadSam knew he needed to get Sophie's attention. He had to let her know of his tiny plight, but every attempt seemed futile. His tiny voice was lost in the hum of the refrigerator, the tick-tock of the clock, the rustle of the leaves outside.
One day, in a desperate attempt, he climbed a table leg to reach eye level. But just as he neared the top, his mother and Sophie sat down for tea. Their feet shuffled beneath the table, and causing him to fall to the floor without noticing him, they placed their feet perilously close to Sam. He was a mere speck between the mountains of their feet. The sight of their colossal feet was a grim reminder of his vulnerability - a slight shift, a careless movement, and he could be squashed.
Suddenly, his mother let out a gasp. She had spotted something on the floor. Before Sam could react, she brought down her foot, squishing whatever it was. Sam was only 2cm away from the impact. The force of her foot sent him tumbling, his heart pounding in terror.
But the horror didn't end there. As his mother dragged her foot back, Sam found himself stuck to the sole of her foot. He was dragged along, his body pinned between his mother's foot and the floor. The world spun as he was transported across the room.
Things got worse when Sophie absently moved her foot, covering Sam's lower body. He was trapped, sandwiched between his mother's and sister's feet. He wanted to scream, to shout, but his tiny voice was muffled by his mother's toe.
Fear gripped him as he lay there, pinned under the feet of his unknowing family. His world had shrunk to the dark, confined space between his mother's and sister's feet. His voice was lost, his struggles unnoticed. Yet, within him, a spark of determination ignited. He refused to give up. He would find a way to communicate, to return to his normal life. But for now, he could only wait and hope.
