Lilywisp is described as a very compassionate cat, usually putting the needs of others before herself. She shows great concern for her clanmates, and pays extra attention to the elders and kits. When she’s in camp, it’s common for her to be entertaining the kits, making sure they stay out of trouble and fretting over them as if they were her own. This motherly attitude has mixed results with the kits, but her other clanmates appreciate the extra help. She tries to display as warm and inviting of a personality as she can. While she doesn’t consider herself the strongest warrior, she believes she hunts well, and will spend as much of her time hunting for the clan, determined to keep everyone fed and healthy, and to prove to her clanmates that she belongs in the clan.
Growing up as a wandering rogue, Lilywisp saw many different lands, but none as interesting and amazing as Starclan’s territory. Living in such a lush environment leaves her curiosity constantly unfulfilled, and she loves to see the various plant life that fills the territory. Though, being curious doesn’t mean she rushes off recklessly. She takes a careful approach to most things, giving time to think things through and at least have some sort of plan.
Due to her rogue background, she never developed the skills needed to establish personal bonds with other cats, which makes it a challenge to get close to her. Holding simple conversations isn’t hard for her, but if the conversations get too personal, she might grow increasingly more unresponsive. Growing up with a nomadic lifestyle leaves her feeling antsy constantly, and she doesn’t like feeling confined or trapped in one place. She’s always fighting her wandering roots, desperately wanting the family life the clan offers, and she worries that these desires to wander so often will hurt the relationship between her and her clanmates, as well as a potential mate. To help remedy this, she’s prone to wandering the territory frequently, and picks numerous places to hunt to keep her need to travel satiated.
History:
PRE-STARFALL
The early moons were a blur. Cold nights, unfamiliar locations and temporary homes, scattered cats whose faces are unrecognizable memories now; being only a few moons old, events seemed to come and go. Raised within a small band of rogues, it was expected for her world to change with the group’s next move. Given her group’s nomadic lifestyle, cats would freely leave and join as they please, making the establishment of strong bonds with others a fruitless challenge. Being just a kit, her longing for friendships that would last longer than mere days was strong. All she knew was moving from place to place, and strangers coming and going on a whim. The only consistency in her early life was her mother.
Her mother, a sweet she-cat named Ginger, had raised her as well as any mother could given the circumstances, encouraging her to continue to try and make friends, teaching her to show compassion for others, and telling the stories of when she herself was young. Of all her stories, Lily was always fascinated by her mother’s encounter with the clans. She learned the grand tales of long gone cats living among the stars, watching the living cats from above to give them guidance, and the wonders of a large family-like clan that never left each other. “Always have faith in the stars,” she would tell her, “one day they will guide you on your path”. The foreign concepts and magical nature of the stories excited her at such a young age, leaving her to fantasize about a life so different from her own, but offered her what she felt a longing for: a long-lasting bond with others.
STARFALL
Starfall will forever be a vivid memory. She remembers the bright lights, the yowls of horror, and the cats of her group scattering as the stars brought down a thunderous rain like no other. Unable to move from the shock of it all, Ginger practically dragged her into a nearby rocky outcrop for shelter to wait out the event. By the end of it, the damage was unreal. It was as if the land had been ripped apart by some vengeful force, tearing apart everything in sight. The two wandered around, shaken by the event witnessed, looking for any familiar cats...any cats at all really. They found some of their group, limp and lifeless near the holes left in the earth. Unable to find any other cats they knew, they mourned their departed companions. Ginger looked towards the setting sun and made the decision that they would look for a new home. A home that would be safe and rich in prey, and hopefully, with other cats who might have answers for why the sky had taken so much from them. Her mother took one last look back at the destruction and comforted her kit as they continued forward. “We will follow the stars, as the clans do.”
POST-STARFALL
Travelling in the days after Starfall were unpleasant and lonely. Cats had become harder to come by, and the few that they did meet were unfriendly and in varying states of shock. The event had put everyone on edge, making rogues who would once be more hospitable to a mother and her kit instead hostile and cold. Lily and Ginger were lucky to find a few cats here and there who would allow them food and shelter for a night, but usually after a night they were expected to leave. The wandering lifestyle she had started to dislike was somehow becoming worse.
Many moons passed, and they had traversed many lands, seeking a sheltered home where the prey would be plenty and that they could call their home. Looking towards the setting sun, they finally saw something promising: the beginnings of green vegetation! They wanted to rush towards the new land before them, but their travels had begun to take a toll on the two cats, especially Ginger. She wasn’t an old cat, but the many moons of travelling as a rogue had started to wear on her. The moons of scarce prey and constant walking exposed in the sun all day had drained her and she had started to grow sick only a few moons prior to their arrival of the green lands they had been seeking. Slowly they made their way to the land they had been seeking, Lily supporting Ginger along the way. In the days following their arrival, things had not improved. Ginger had become weaker, leaving Lily to do all the hunting. Her mother had taught her as much as she could through their travels, but she hadn’t been a proficient hunter. It was hard for Lily to teach herself with minimal background training, but her determination to keep her mother well fed pushed her to keep trying, and she would spend whole days trying to catch what she could.
It was moonhigh when Ginger’s sickness finally overtook her, just one moon after they arrived. Lily had hardly left her mother’s side, giving what little prey she had caught to sick cat, trying to delay the inevitable. “Remember what I used to tell you about the stars, when you were a kit? I’ll always be among them, my child. Always follow the stars.” Her last words came out as a near faint whisper, and soon after she gave one final sigh, and stopped. She was gone. Grief swept over her as she realized the one consistency in her life was taken from her. She was alone now. She laid next to her mother for the night and most of the next day, too upset to find food. It wasn’t until the sun dropped behind the treetops that she finally stood up to give her mother a burial. Feeling numb, she turned away from the site and walked further towards the thickening trees, watching the darkening sky.
As the moon rose and illuminated her path and stars slowly filled the sky, she stopped and stared. One in particular caught her eye. This star wasn’t too much brighter than the surrounding ones, but it seemed to call to her, beckoning her to continue forward in its direction, into the increasingly dense foliage.
Always follow the stars.
She took a deep breath, swallowing the sorrow she had been feeling moments ago, and she quickly moved forward towards the star, determined to listen to her mother’s final words.
Extras:
- She always wonders if she should have asked to train as a medicine cat, but opted against it as she’s prone to not remaining calm under pressure and doesn’t like seeing injured or dying cats
- Starclan’s territory has the most water she’s ever seen and she tries to teach herself to swim on occasion when she’s out wandering
- Social cats that are patient tend to have an easier time bonding with her
