Description
It's been quite some time since my last submission. A friend of mine is allowing me to use his connection to upload this.Anyway, I had one of my well detailed descriptions for this one, but it somehow got lost in my mind. Best I can do now is give you the break down of what I intended with this piece.
The white background, or fabric, represents the dull and uneventful perception most people carry for the world around us. A big, dumb, boring reality. The strange and somewhat organic texture behind the white fabric (that you can see through the tears) is a symbol for the wild and unbound nature of the human imagination. As the imagination interacts with the real world it creates a rip in our perceptions. As you can see, these rips take on a shape and form of their own. In this case you can make out a pair of angel/demon wings and what appears to be a flying creature of somekind. These figures really seem to hang on the image like a collection of art on the walls of your home.
A story teller, to me, is like a collector. A collector of fantasy and imagination. And through the union of our playful minds and the serious perception of our everyday lives, the next story finds its way to the Story Teller's collection.
I believe we all try and tell a story through our art. No matter if it is the written word or through visual means (painted images, photography, or movie making). So the story i'm trying to tell here is that good art relies on good stories, and good stories come from a wild imagination and a very keen eye. Not everyone is going to see the same thing I see in this or any other image, but everyone who lays their eyes on it will see SOMETHING. What that is all depends on your imagination too.
