In the year 2082, cybernetics are a normal part of everyday life. People replace limbs with cybernetic augmentations. One universal feature that many cybernetics have is that they are modular. Meaning that before being fitted with a cybernetic, the user is fitted with nodes. This allows new augmentation to be easily replaced. Many users like to detatch their limbs, almost like taking off your shoes when you get home. Of course some users augment all four of their limbs, so they would often need to leave one on in order to reattatch the rest of their limbs. However, if they're with someone they trust, they can do what's called "letting loose". Often times it's a kink where one party removes all their limbs, sometimes both parties remove their limbs with one of them having one limb, or if they're daring, both parties remove all limbs.

One trend people have been engaging in is "reverting". They decide to abandon their cybernetics, even going as far as to have their nodes removed. This has been a humanist movement that started in 2070 when many felt that people became overreliant on cybernetic augmentations. Once nodes are removed, they cannot be put back, as the surgury to attatch the nodes, along with the surgery to remove them leaves perminant damage to the parts of body they were grafted onto. So permenant disability is something an individual would have to accept.

This also means that some people have decided to permenantly 'let loose'. Relinquishing all independence in order to feel human again.
